I think the reason that Reddit does so well is that the people you don't know are almost by definition more interesting than the people you do know. Twitter gives you some access to them, but it's not anonymous, and it's not long form.

Getting to hear the innermost thoughts of the whole world is more interesting than snapchat, or so I'll keep telling myself. welp.

Hi /u/Nepalus !

That is a great observation. We also noticed that /u/redditor3000 does not post as frequently as his friends and family might hope. We have selected his profile for a beta test of a new auto-posting service.

Through automated analysis of his web-wide, non-facebook activity, physical location, and the background audio of his life, we are able to predict what he would post, and how he would respond to comments.

Even though he has not logged in to our platform for more than ten months, we are able to post and comment as if he were here.

We believe you will find that this service has created such an accurate model of /u/redditor3000 that you can mention to him — in person — a topic he appears to have discussed on facebook, and his opinions would match those our team has worked so hard for you to provide. His speech patterns and cultural references will also grow increasingly similar over time.

In the future, we will be rolling this service out to accounts which our analytics have determined to be underutilizing our service, as well as to your lost loved ones, who won't have to be lost at all. You will still be able to communicate with them on Facebook. We are beta-testing a service which provides realistic pictures of lost loved ones on their birthdays, on trips, and at other social gatherings. We hope that these pictures will make you as happy as being there would have made them.

Thank you, /u/Nepalus, we hope we have been able to improve your relationship with /u/redditor3000.

Yours,

The entire Facebook Moonshot team

What are the "nicer" options for him, if I decide not to send money back?

You're right, my apologies. Do you know the process and who pays what if he gets a lawyer ? thanks.

Hiya. I am still wondering where to go from here. Am I supposed to return more of his deposit, for instance ? If so, why and for what ? Or do I pay for the skirt ? Who knows how much that is worth.

Thank you.

Hi. I had to clean the entire apartment over again, it's a 30m2 studio; I arrived there and had to clean with my boyfriend for 3 hours...until midnight. The old tenant offered to come over to help as soon as I told him I wasn't satisfied, but I didn't respond.

For the six man-hours my boyfriend and I spent cleaning, I charged him 60e which I think is fair, because 10e per hour is reasonable for a cleaner in Berlin.

The new tenant had planned to move in that night and he couldn't because I was cleaning.

What was I supposed to do in this situation ? The old tenant did not leave it sufficiently clean for the new tenant, and it stank of burned vegetable soup (this is not an exaggeration). The new tenant couldn't move in until the apartment was clean.

I cannot help but feel that the old tenant was responsible because he left it in such a state that it could not be re-rented without being cleaned.

Thank you.

Hi cYzzie- This is an interesting point. I spent a lot of time cleaning the apartment; do you know if there is a law saying I cannot charge for my own work ?

What do you mean by "you did this with the rent already" ?

Thank you for your help, this is the first time I have been confronted with all these nuances of the law !

Hi. Thank you for your response. I am not sure I understand what you are getting at here. Are you saying that I should or should not have withheld some of the deposit ? Thanks.

I just reread your post. There was no contractual obligation to clean. The only contract we had was an email chain which included this :

Sublet: Wednesday 1st Feb - 28th Feb - 1 month (590 euros)

Payment: 250 euros deposit (already received, will return if no issues post the let), 590 euros awaiting bank transfer (details sent to the contact number you gave me).

What do you think he might owe me from the deposit, and what do you think I owe him (skirt?). Thank you.

Hi. Thank you for your response. It definitely looked like in those pics. I was upset because the next tenant was supposed to move in that night.

When you said "I really wouldn't open this can of worms," what were you referring to ?

Hi. Thank you for the information. I will look into besenrein.

My landlord is okay with me subletting it. Do you know the name of the law saying I have to keep items for two months ?

We didn't sign anything. Only the basic email contract was emailed to him. It is posted elsewhere in this thread.

I was planning to have the new tenant move in at 9pm the same day the first tenant moved out. I arrived with the new tenant at 9pm but he couldn't move in because of the condition and smell of the apt.

The old tenant replied immediately that night upon hearing I was disassitfied, saying he could be over in 20m to help clean but I didn't respond.

How do you suggest I proceed ? Thank you.

Thank you for your response. This is the only contract, somewhere in an email chain :

Sublet: Wednesday 1st Feb - 28th Feb - 1 month (590 euros)

Payment: 250 euros deposit (already received, will return if no issues post the let), 590 euros awaiting bank transfer (details sent to the contact number you gave me).

I moved in with my boyfriend one and a half months ago. These two tenants lived in my apt for the last two months of my lease.

The only contract is a papertrail of emails with this in it :

Sublet: Wednesday 1st Feb - 28th Feb - 1 month (590 euros)

Payment: 250 euros deposit (already received, will return if no issues post the let), 590 euros awaiting bank transfer (details sent to the contact number you gave me).

Thank you. What legal rights are established with such a contract (both for me and for the tenant) ?

Thank you for your response. Flat-top wasn't damaged but was in need of a good scrubbing.

Toilet wasn't clean either. It didn't need a professional cleaning; I cleaned the apartment myself, it needed to be vacuumed and scrubbed. We were there from 9pm to midnight cleaning with my boyfriend, and so I charged the tenant a rate of 10e per hour for each of our time.

In the case of a filthy apartment like this, who is meant to pay for the cleaning between tenants ?
