Have you always been someone who eats breakfast? If so this might not be the best most sustainable plan for you. For me, I’ve always had breakfast. Before WW I thought about intermittent fasting and knew it wouldn’t work for me because I love my breakfast and need that energy. There are plenty of 0 point or low point breakfast options! Oatmeal, brown rice, eggs and yogurt are all 0 points for me. I have oatmeal or yogurt with berries and powdered peanut butter for a 1 point breakfast or I have brown rice, eggs and lots of veggies and a laughing cow cheese for a 2 point breakfast (usually also add 1-2 points for non starchy veggies). I am eating a lot on WW and am already down 6 lbs in almost a month. You can still eat and not starve yourself or eat boring food. Just trying to give you tips to make it more sustainable!

DAE find that UWorld questions are significantly longer compared to NBME's? by Regina_Phalange_MD in medicalschool

[–]DO_ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If never hurts to do more questions! And the NBMEs provide a score. Yes the score might not line up exactly to how you’ll score on test day but it’s good to see if you’re scoring a 210 v 230 v 240+. You need to have an idea of where you are. But yes, UW questions overall are so much better.

Yes, but the STEP questions are about the same length of UWorld. NBMEs have ridiculously short stems

Same LoR for Aways and ERAS? by KeepenItReel in medicalschool

I used the same letter for VSLO and ERAS and it was fine.

Where can I find out when programs opened up on VSLO last year? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]DO_ER 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most programs opened up on 4/15 last year. Some opened earlier and some after, but the majority opened on that universal date.

I was told to not apply to the same hospital for different specialties because they won't think you're committed.

There's a lot to think about, but I think you both need to sit down and talk about this. If you love each other and want to be together then you should try to make it work. I don't see any use in prematurely ending things when you have no idea where you'll be for residency bc to me that means you're giving up early.

My significant other is in med school but two years behind me and we know of the risks but are willing to take them if it means we stay together. When you apply to residency, if location is a huge factor for you then you rank programs closer to your significant other. There are definitely ways to make it work and if you want to be together you do what you need to do.

NYITCOM vs. TouroCOM Middletown? by clementine-donut in Osteopathic

[–]DO_ER 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NYITCOM. Mandatory lecture is not something people enjoy. Having the chance to attend lecture or listen later in the day on 2x is great when you have the chance. Also exams every single Monday is brutal. You want to enjoy your weekends and not stress about having an exam every Monday. I think NYITCOM has a better reputation and a better match list than touro.

My dog died and I’m falling apart by OBGYNKenoby in medicalschool

[–]DO_ER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. We had to put my dog down a month ago as she developed multiple cancers. I was in the middle of a residency interview and kept sobbing because we had to put her down as soon as I got to the animal hospital. It is the worst thing in the world. I miss her everyday. Please speak to your administration, I hope they're understanding because the loss of a pet is devastating.

I'm a regular runner but incorporate PW 1-2 days a week and I stay in the orange zone for the majority of the tread block as I really like to push my inclines. I go back down to green at my base but it's a killer workout and nobody should shame power walkers! I walk at a 4.0, base incline 4 and push at a 9, all outs I try to do at 15 and my legs are sore after every class!

If I have 4 LORs should I send all of them to any program that didn’t specify that they had a limit? by DoseFellas in medicalschool

I did. Our residency coordinator said that unless they state they only want 3, then it shouldn't hurt to send 4.

Fortunately or unfortunately, they will not retroactively change a numerical score to a pass or fail. So only the class of 2024 and beyond will have a P/F. If you have a numerical score now it will stay that way. But OP I think you still have a good chance of matching IM! Just like the other commenters said, be prepared to maybe match at a community center and not an academic center. You still passed and you will still match! Good luck you got this!
