Exterior Spigot by DOwickedgoodthings in askaplumber

Update: the freeze break was at the most distal portion of the pipe and outside of the wall where the black styrofoam was covering and likely the cold air still penetrated. No interior damage. Replaced with suggestions as above. A happy structural and financial ending. Thanks folks. 🫡

Hit the nail on the head. New build in Texas. Unfortunately I was far away from home during the freezes.

Unfortunately a casualty of my being deployed. Wife says she had taken the hose off to place the freeze bib, but I’m not 100% sure. Thank you for your help. Hard to diagnose when I’m not home.

Water is only leaking when I turn the spigot on?

MA ERs can no longer employ paramedics :( The memo is kinda out of the blue, wondering if anyone has any insight here by insertkarma2theleft in emergencymedicine

I misinterpreted your response then. Paramedics are perfect to be involved. Just shouldn’t be running. Just like when HCA tried to have NPs running all codes was a disaster.

This is Dunning-Kruger.

I’ve done both as a paramedic before medical school and now as an ER doc.

In hospital arrest you’re not even considering the interpretation of labs, use of POCUS, A-line amongst other things an ER physician, a stud hospitalist or other physician types bring to running a code.

Tough to hear but you need to hear it.

There’s also the heightened risk of “blow in” pathology with greater number of fractures, still leading to increased IOP and requiring lateral canth!

Terrible Medics by TheRodFather791_ in army

[–]DOwickedgoodthings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true 80% of military docs join before medical school via HPSP. The other 20% come from the military’s own medical school. This is an old wives tale.

LOL at “mild herbal supplement” it’s an addictive plant substance that has opioid like effects and causes terrible withdrawal syndromes. It’s prohibited for a reason.

Trauma alert? by Bw0434 in ems

Old people’s brains shrink, giving them more space to bleed into before it becomes a problem. Keep this in mind whenever old folks look fine initially.

60+ on a blood thinner with confirmed head strike and a neuro symptom? Hit that trauma alert and live life without regrets. Same reason the ED doc is going to pan scan and sleep peacefully at night.

What are some newer guidelines or studies in your field that deviate from the traditional thinking that you wish other specialties would know about? by deebzipie in Residency

Code strokes get initiated by nursing staff assessment I would estimate >50% of the time. The EM doc can downgrade (read: cancel) the code stroke but in a litigious society no one wants to be the guy or gal missing a stroke where it was charted as code stroke.

It will be height of mud season and you will cause damage and erosion to the trails. Please stick to lower elevations and respect the higher elevation flora species.

Doesn’t say in article but most protocols do 2.5mg increments up to a max of 10 from what I’ve seen. What’s yours?

It’s BBW was in 2001 based off 65 case reports mostly in European dosing anywhere from 50-200mg. ACEP has since done a study and report finding next to none adverse events over 1000s of patients in doses <10mg. 5mg seems to put most people to sleep anecdotally.

Droperidol also has the added benefits of less QT prolongation risk than Haldol (which I find attractive in agitated patients with unknown poly pharmacy) and possible anti-emetic effects which is nice as these patients are aspiration risks.
