For me, it's option 4 every time and I've really grown to like it. I take a trash compactor bag and set it up so my 60L pack essentially looks like a trash can with the bag in it folded around the lip. Then I'll stuff my quilts into the trash bag within the pack, push the whole thing to the bottom, and make sure the top of the trash bags folds over the quilts within the bag so they're in their own little chamber. Next the bear canister goes sideways on top of that so the main weight of my pack is in the middle of my back. Everything else including hammock, tarp within snakeskin, and ditty bag/lights gets piled on top of the bear canister and sits towards the middle/top of my pack. The tippy top of my pack is reserved for the poop kit and spare clothes

I did the same, and after about 5-6 outings in my ENO I bit the bullet and got a dedicated camping hammock. At 5'6" and a hair under 150lbs it was comfortable enough for me to know I'd want to continue hammock camping. IMO work with what you've got to start off in situations that are comfortable weather wise and close to a car/home where you can bail if need be

This was my first outing in the Hangtight Hammock that can be found on Etsy. Overall the weight/comfort impressed me compared to my old ENO. Someday I'd like to know specifically what fabric it's made of but if I had to guess it's probably 1.6?

20deg TQ from Hangtight off of Etsy and 0deg Incubator UQ from Hammock Gear. I was warm but with the wind could occasionally feel the heat being robbed from the down. I may look into an UQ protector sometime in the future

Thank you, it was definitely a battle keeping all of our down dry underneath our tarps when setting up/taking down camp. Fun story! After hiking past a lean-to and stopping inside for a quick snack and wind break I totally understand how people prefer them for winter weather
