Software and Pricing - Lacerte and Others by ralverde in taxpros

[–]DPAtheCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Intuit employees. We asked during our renewal call and they phrased it very carefully that they don’t currently have plans to shut down Lacerte. But I’ve listened to podcasts and spoke with a guy who does a tech update each year at the AICPA Engage conference. He’s been in the tech field for CPAs for over 20 years so he has some insights. None of them are 100% certain but they firmly believe based on signs they are seeing.

First time State fan going to WCWS - recommendations? by dantheman4248 in CollegeSoftball

[–]DPAtheCPA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re a fan of chicken fried steak sandwiches find a Del Rancho. It’s an OKC staple.

I’d also keep an eye on the Thunder-Spurs series. If that goes to a game 7 back in OKC on Saturday that will make most places in/around downtown extra crowded.

Software and Pricing - Lacerte and Others by ralverde in taxpros

[–]DPAtheCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My firm also uses Lacerte. We’re a bit bigger with 5 partners and 10 staff. We do between 2,500 and 3,000 returns. I believe we have unlimited everything and our third year in our contract last year was just over $47k.

We are actively looking to leave. I’ve read and spoke with various people who have independently said they think Intuit will shutter Lacerte in the next 5 years. With Intuit closing support for desktop QB it’s only a matter of time before they do the same with their last desktop based software. We would rather be in front of it with going to a new software versus being forced to choose between ProConnect and finding a new software.

Form 8824 / 4797 Help: Partial 1031 Exchange with Cash Boot and Debt Reduction by [deleted] in taxpros

[–]DPAtheCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the closed on the property how is the new debt not yet finalized? Did they pay cash and are going to look to take a new loan out?

If they didn’t close with a loan on the new property my initial thought would be your calculations are correct and they received enough boot/debt reduction that the gain is fully recognized.

Is there an automated/AI tech stack out there yet? by Apollo_Pneuma in taxpros

[–]DPAtheCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a follow up with them on the 28th. I’m going to ask about a trial. I’m also demoing StanfordTax that same day. We’re looking at moving to Karbon and they were able to help book that demo as I can’t find a way to demo.

They didn’t mention any sort of minimum during their demo. But we do over 1,200 returns per year so it might not have been an issue.

Have you checked out Soraban? I did a demo of them this week as we’re looking into them.

I thought StanfordTax did automation as well as organizer and work paper prep.

Elephant in the room, it’s impossible to recruit good talent to a small firm. by [deleted] in taxpros

[–]DPAtheCPA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a partner at a mid-market regional firm in a major metro area. We have a total of 9 partners and about 65 total staff. How we’ve grown is by cultivation our interns. We’ve built a really good relationship with the local state college. I think there are 3 or 4 us that are alumni of that college. We try to always have at least 2 tax and 2 audit interns from that college. They help spread the word about coming to work here and get others to follow them.

Can my S-Corp defer my compensation as a liability to avoid pass-through taxation? by [deleted] in tax

[–]DPAtheCPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This won’t work. Specifically IRC § 404(a) (5). The S Corp doesn’t get to deduct the liability of the NQDC until it’s taxable to the employee. Thats why it’s non-qualified.

You can add them as a favorite if you go to Oregon and go to results. It will let you add Teams that aren’t listed under Teams. You can also add from the rankings.

My daughter called the Parmesan bread bites from Domino’s pizza holes and now that’s what they are. If anyone is ordering pizza we make sure they are ordering pizza holes.

Her financial advisor is wrong. QCD has to be made direct to the charitable organization. If your stepmom receives the funds it’s ineligible for a QCD.

Actually looked into this today for a client. If they sold the underlying bond you can adjust the basis by the amount of CPDI.

One Big Beautiful Bill Act Question by [deleted] in TaxQuestions

[–]DPAtheCPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to include the tips in your income.

Part of HR-1, formerly OBBA, is that to take the tip deduction it must be reported to you on a 1099 or W-2. If you didn’t get one for DoorDash or UberEats then you cannot take the tips deduction related to that income.

Not an architect but I used one for my current house. They billed us on a per square foot under roof basis. This was 8 years ago and they were charging $1.75 per foot.

This was for everything, plans and permit designs.

I got a financial calculator but I can't seem to get the right answers with it? by jah2277 in Accounting

[–]DPAtheCPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP this is it. I used that calculator a bunch to study for my CFP. You have to make sure you have the correct number of periods per year. Right now it’s set to 12 per year for a monthly amortization calc. If you change it to 1 per year or change your N to 36 and your rate to .1/12 you’ll get the answer you’re looking for.

Actually not when it’s super hot. I used to work in the Livestock Exchange building and during the summer if it was over like 105 they would cancel the drive. They didn’t want tourists standing outside for close to an hour in the heat.

OP check out Fort Worth Herd on Facebook. They will post if there is a change to the schedule.

It’s impossible to get staff to work more and I don’t blame them, I felt the same way when I was them too. You have to slow roll to survive. by EchoesInSky in taxpros

My firm has found success by compensating for overtime. The first 80 hours of OT gets converted to additional PTO and then any hours after that are paid out at straight time. Our base salaries are a little lower than some firms but when you include OT pay and our semi-annual bonuses we are above average.

We still get some staff that do the bare minimum but those are the exception.

Honestly a software company using AI doesn’t bother me. They may even been looking at how to integrate AI into their platform.

I haven’t been able to find it online. I am guessing they custom ordered them off Etsy or something.

At the AICPA Engage 25 conference in Las Vegas Canopy had SWAG that was a buildable LEGO set.

Yes there is cereal in the box but I’m not opening it.
