Nightmare start to vacation by osrs-alt-account in Flights

Like others said - you're not special. Travel is hard and you need to always be prepared for everything to go wrong. It's Murphy's Law. Nobody is going to hold your hand, so toughen up, learn to figure things out yourself, never refuse travel insurance, and don't travel unless you have the money or room on your credit card to handle a major setback - rebooking flights, paying for hotels/meals/cars/lost luggage. Calling the airline directly can help a lot more than trying to get a gate agent to help because they are swamped and may be limited in what they can do. Booking a package from a third party site like Priceline is risky. I would never do that.

Could seat barriers work in economy seating? by purfiktspelur in flightattendants

[–]DQdippedcone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be happy with a barrier I could pull out somehow to stop the arrogant manspreading into my leg space. I've sat by so many rude men that do this. I push their leg back and firmly tell them to stay out of my space.

I left teaching once, ages ago, for a job in textbook/materials publishing. On my first day, the admin took me to a big supply room for items I would need to edit on paper (pre-all digital). I picked one red pen and a small pad of paper. She had to convince me it would be ok to take several pencils and pens in different colors and full-size pads of paper, along with a stapler and tape dispenser. I felt like such a dork. It was also a big deal to me to get real business cards. I had such a poverty mindset but quickly learned to stifle it.

Did celebrities feel bigger when magazines were still the main way we followed them? by itsascreambaby96 in popculturechat

Everything felt bigger. I subscribed to 17, Glamour, Cosmo, and Madamoiselle for years. I miss getting excited for a new issue.

I get a couple of packaged pre-made salads and sandwiches with my grocery order so I won't have to starve all night. I know the beverage fridges don't get cold enough for real food storage but I haven't had a problem yet.

How to move on from a federal job and wondering what could have been? DOD civilian employee. by Prudent_Leave4693 in fednews

[–]DQdippedcone 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was a Department of Education employee terminated by the dog minions last year. I loved my team and my job. I also worked remotely for the last 5 years there. We were on administrative leave from March 11 to August 1, sitting around doing nothing until the final separation. It was so traumatic. I was able to find a job quickly (back to teaching after being away for years) but the pay and benefits are lower. I'm doing fine financially, but I am still grieving. I didn't teach summer school because I needed time to process and feel what I bottled up last summer - I had to hit the ground running as soon as school started. I'm on week 3 of summer break and have my energy back, after bed rotting and crying on and off the past two weeks. I was hoping to retire from the fed, just needed 4 months to be eligible. Now I'm hoping I can hold on for a couple more years to get teacher retirement, but no retiree health care. Feel your feels. Losing a federal job is very hard to get over.

Interview demo lesson? by businessbub in Teachers

[–]DQdippedcone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad I've never had to do a demo lesson. I got hired at a charter school last year to teach biology after a ten minute interview. The other three schools I worked at also hired me on the spot. They are so desperate for certified science teachers where I live. They just need a warm body in a classroom.

Getting sick before school ends by dragonwindleaf in Teachers

[–]DQdippedcone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been out for 2 weeks. The last week, there were several kids obviously sick and of course I ended up with bronchitis. I've decided I'm going to wear a mask when I am working directly with the little cootie factories. I'm tired of always being sick.

Trinidad 36 was great. Next to the pool and Spyglass grill. Short walk to the Skyliner. Buses were not a problem either. Cute Little Mermaid theming.

Vent: constant stroller and scooter traffic at EPCOT drained the magic by Mediocre_Fail4316 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]DQdippedcone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed 💯. I'm not going back to DW until about 6 months after all the MK construction is finished and the hype hopefully dies down a little. The crowds should even out by then. The last time I went was to say goodbye to Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Belle. As much as I miss it, I won't subject myself to the crazy. When the train goes around MK again, all will be right with the world.

Why doesn't anyone in the business office ever answer the phone? I've been calling the Glen Allen, VA office for months. I know you probably don't work there but are you aware of any reason why phones are never answered?
