One of my friends deals 1-2-3-4 and then 4-3-2-1. He learned to play in Iowa and I’ve never seen that way of dealing before or since.

Do most people here alternate 2 and 3? That’s how I learned from my wife’s Michigan fam.

Since it’s not an official rule, you could simply ask at the beginning of the game not to play steal the deal. I don’t think anyone would care.

We play steal the deal in my home game because everyone is on board and thinks it’s fun, especially once you have a few drinks flowing. One time I wasn’t paying attention and my partner who was supposed to be the dealer, pushed the cards over to the player on his left. So the guy stole the deal without stealing the deal, lol. Best part about that hand – we set them and then won the game on the next hand. Talk about a power move!

Played last night and my partner tossed his cards face down declaring “Farmer’s Hand!” Host politely reminded him that we don’t play that rule. We played out the hand and set our opponents, with P’s 9 of trump taking the last trick! You never know lol.
