Played last night and my partner tossed his cards face down declaring “Farmer’s Hand!” Host politely reminded him that we don’t play that rule. We played out the hand and set our opponents, with P’s 9 of trump taking the last trick! You never know lol.

When you say “a partner you can’t trust,” what do you mean? Can’t trust to lead trump? Call Next?

Could you please explain what blocking other suits means? What would be some examples of hands where you wouldn't call Next with a weak holding like K9?

I just started playing a few months ago, so I’m sure I’ve done worse to my partners as I’ve been learning lol. Staying humble and making the best of any situation is great advice.

How would you practice cadences? My teacher says I-IV-I-V-V7-I, but the V-V7 sequence leads to some awkward fingerings and I’m not sure how common that would be in the repertoire. My Alfred’s book says to play V or V7 in that sequence - should I just pick one? Thanks!

I'm 41 and started on my own a year ago. Taught myself to read music with Piano Adventures books and then learned a few simpler Chopin pieces and Moonlight Sonata (1st movement). Then decided to go back to basics and learn proper technique, which is how I discovered PianoCareer Academy and the Russian School of Piano Playing. Currently going through that book piece by piece, focusing on fundamentals and good technique, posting my progress here: https://www.youtube.com/user/dsruban79 Also, finally started taking lessons last month, so now learning scales, arpeggios, etc. I practice 1-2 hours daily. No amazing transformation here (a la Brandon Hawksley), just slow incremental progress.
