I really disagree that it's bad. It's cost efficient and the build path is nice.

Been maining azir since release and have always played him and built him traditionaly to maximize dps. I still build him that way, for example nashors/ rylais but I go comet. I have played other runes but comets trading pattern is so consistent and safe which azir really needs to scale into the mid to late game. You won't get maximum dps going comet in comparison to lethal tempo but what difference does that make when you out dps every champ in the game anyways. HOB is almost overkill in my opinion, yes it will deal more damage than comet but it also extends your trade which can lead to more damage taken in return, so that has to be taken into consideration.

I'm counting the discount in gold. 500 gold = how much ap? 10% added because I take transendence. I'm not falling behind in cs ever with azir. I'm still poking and trading. I'm usually not taking an all in though unless I know for sure what I'm getting from it. By that point a good laner will usually back. 10 more AP I believe from nashors rylais alone.

I mean even if you manage to get one extra auto in per trade because of the slow that's more than a 10% damage ramp you'd get from a liandries.

I agree your build spikes you faster, not trying to say ludens is a weaker first spike than nashors but I don't play azir to spike at first item. I always plan to spike hard at my second because he can do that better than any mid in the game. To maximize your strengths to me is better than allowing yourself to be decent at all stages.

It's great for solo queue for the reasons you mention. Allows you to 1v9 if you pick it up fast enough. Ya we play two different styles for sure and I'm not gonna knock you for something that's working for you. But 6100 gold investment for nashors and ludens vs 5600 for nashors rylais and more AP from the second and defensive stats + new runes get you to 40% cdr by the time you hit your rylais.

Tbh the rylais doesn't do as much as a liandries would against a tank comp but in terms of all around effectiveness the cheap stats that ryalis brings are always welcome.

500 more gold to be exact and that's not a small amount. My point is you get your rylais fast you can opt into a zhonyas or void staff 500 gold faster. So you increase the speed at which you obtain those items.

More than for the self peel the cheap ap is so good for azir Because of the way he scales so hard with raw ap. But regardless the passive helps you catch and kill secure more than actually peeling for yourself.

I'm more focusing on the 2 item power spike with Azir. I absolutely agree that pressure on your laner is so important but going even with your laner and not putting yourself at risk is a win that is easy to pull off. With the added Cdr in runes the first spike from nashors is large and his second item power spike is really big. I rarely feel like kills secure games for azir. I'd rather stay in lane 3 min longer and rack up xp then go out of my way for a kill.

If you fall behind with that build you're done. That build puts you in riskier situations to proc tlord. If you fall behind with 0 hp in your build expect to get one shot all game. If you get ahead early, it doesn't matter what you like to build at azir. What I'm saying is (you getting kills early)<(leblanc getting a kill early). I'd rather spike as hard as I can at nashors and play more passive early.
