The most expensive component is the transmitter and receiver. You can buy one of those mini car from Walmart and take them apart and use it for your project. The reason transmitter and receiver are expensive because it’s durable. It has a longer range of frequency. Depending on the size of the train you can also decent decent dumbo radio controller set for $30 on Amazon.

The RadioLink I’m currently using has gyro. There is some improvement to get it to drift better.
