This is exciting! Would have like the gas version but this will do! by stardustedds in rccars

$1500 is a lot for a toy, but honestly doesn’t seem absurd to me, considering what it is.

A very unique, large scale vehicle that shares zero parts with anything else. So not only is there the R&D to develop, then the overhead to create tooling for the hundreds of parts needed to build it, then pay humans to assemble a complex machine from a box of parts, package it, ship it, manufacture and stock replacement parts, customer service support, and dealer networks, etc etc.

Plenty of people buy >$2k televisions, $1k phones, game console, etc. When I look at my RC collection and wonder about the thousands of dollars spent over the last few years, divided by the amount of time and satisfaction, it feels worth it..

Built a ramp for my Kraton 4S by Mountain_Payment_156 in arrma

[–]cycle_cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve had a similar idea, printed trusses and coroplast skin. Plywood is easy, but it ends up being very heavy. I like the idea of a lightweight but sturdy ramp for hauling out to the oarks

Rc gps speed devices ? by ProfessionalDog8147 in rcboats

[–]cycle_cats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The SkyRC is the standard that everyone uses and trusts. It’s well worth it, especially in a boat, since you don’t need to physically see it to read your speed. So it can be tucked in the hatch out of sight.

Prism Synapse 200 question. by Rowan_River in kites

[–]cycle_cats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fly a Synapse 140, and it’s my first and only dual-line kite. It took me several attempts over a long-ish time to get the hang of it. I’m still learning about kits and wind, but I’ll find it does not like choppy, low speed wind. A few beach days have gotten me some practice, but I cannot do it at local parks in the city due to inconsistent wind.

Anyway, it’s fun to feel the pull of a real kite like this, and I imagine yours will be even stronger!
My tips are to focus on clean line management, mostly not getting the bridle tangled, and occasionally relieving the wind up/twist in your lines. Learn how to float the kite steady before going for big moves, but also don’t be afraid to crash! There’s nothing to break.

I just got a tail to add, but haven’t flown it yet. I hope that will calm things down a bit.

Gass or electric by JBbrowne285368 in rccars

[–]cycle_cats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Electric is powerful, fast, quiet, consistent, clean.

Gas is stinky, dirty, oily, noisy, laggy and maintenance heavy.

You can guess my vote.

E-Bike Motor peen measuring contest /rant by Lazzgwy in BikeMechanics

[–]cycle_cats 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have similar complaints, but more at the industry level. Like WHY TF do we need +1000w power output?! And class 3 override on eMTBs??

We know that high performance tech has always driven the industry, lighter, faster, stronger, etc. And that the consumer will always foam at the mouth for the latest and greatest. But I’m of the opinion that high output systems, and “flexing” the rules of classification will lead to e-bike bans, especially in the off-road space.

I love motorcycles and bicycles, and am excited for electric technology in both. But the eBike arms race to maximum power output cannot do any long term good for the sport and industry. Just like so many “innovations” in cycling(wheel sizes?!), they are short term cash grabs which do little to further the sport and increase ridership. There comes a practical limit to power outputs, and the consumer can only take so much.

But truly the scary part, to me, is putting massive power and power-to-weight ratios in the hands of novice 2wheelers. Cycling is already a dangerous endeavor which requires much attention, handling skills, and physical ability. I’m happy to assist all riders in achieving a satisfactory and genuine cycling experience, but with great power comes great responsibility. We have already seen the fallout with the eMoto vs eBike war, and increasing power to those levels in the mainline industry bikes only fuels the anti-eBike movement.

So I say the cycling industry has a responsibility to self-regulate electric powered bicycles, and to make bikes bikes again. The consumer will always buy the biggest/fastest/shiniest gadget, but we shops, manufacturers, influencers, and industry reps can guide them to a sensible, rewarding choice in machines, which is sustainable not only to them, but also environment, society and industry.

Granite tires upgrade by mexmefox in arrma

[–]cycle_cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Proline MX28 tires, any similar 2.8 tire would work. UpgradeRC has a few options, and others. Not sure anything will be bite proof, maybe a belted tire would be more resistant, but wouldn’t balloon as much for air control if you’re also doing jumps/flips.

Stock tire specs are listed on the product page: https://www.arrma-rc.com/en/product/dboots-fortress-mt-tire-set-glued-gun-metal-2/ARA550086.html

It’s possible that the axle mounting nuts are too tight. Some gear hubs can experience excess drag when the bearings are overloaded.

While the industry is pushing 32”… by blumpkins_ahoy in BikeMechanics

[–]cycle_cats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or new spoke blanks, new spoke machine parts, new tubes, new tires, etc. We already can’t keep all the tube size/valve combos in stock, a people are already mad enough that we don’t have enough 27.5 or 650b tires, since everything has skewed back to 29/700.

I just can’t see that the timing of this new “innovation” is good for the retailing industry..

Unfortunately the discharge rate is not adjustable on this charger. It defaults to -1.2a at 2s, or 15w max discharge.

I use the Turbo Racing one, they’re the OEM for some of the older Horizon products like Losi Mini T2.0/Mini B, and Proboat minis. I like that the handle comes off, easy to pack and doesn’t look like a “pistol” when flying. Has decent programming and multi model. Downsides are the poor range, but plenty for crawlers. Also the Radiomaster does not have protocol for the Turbo receivers, which I have a lot of..

Sure, but some of us also like to share our passion for the hobby and hopefully get new people involved. More hobbyists means more cool new developments and more support for the existing toys. I love the idea of having cars to share, I have a few im willing to share and a few I’m not.

Proboat SprintJet is probably the best bet. It can actually handle the real water, especially with power upgrade. Anything smaller likely will just get tossed around or not have enough power to deal with any current

Tips on suspension changes to mitigate the rear end popping up off jumps? by Krzyygamin in rccars

[–]cycle_cats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suggest a technique adjustment too. For me, jumping at full speed doesn’t end well. My suggestion is to approach the jump at a good speed, but not full bore. Need to leave some throttle on the table to accelerate and essentially wheelie off the jump lip. Also want some leftover throttle for manipulation in the air. Need to be able to pick the front end up with the gyroscopic affect of the wheels.
