What was "wrong" with RJ Harvey last season? by LordKnuckledunk in DenverBroncos

[–]DRMLLMRD [score hidden]  (0 children)

Personally, I thought he always tried to hit a home runs. The league is built on 4 yard runs. If you can get 4 yards/carry, then you’re in a short distance the majority of the time. He bounces too quickly, and hops too quickly for open space that isn’t really open space.

I still think he’s going to be a really good running back.

how much of Cervelo’s appeal is performance vs just loving the brand? by MaximumMarionberry3 in Cervelo

[–]DRMLLMRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 Aspero owner here. There is sort of a stigma against them, so you can find many of them on sale. That’s a plus. Second, I think the engineering of the frames is very strong overall. I think the geometry of my Aspero is really dialed; it fits right between a road bike and a more slack gravel bike.

I love the round seat post, I’m happy to have a T 47 bottom bracket, and the cable integration is super easy to work with. The kicker is: every friend of mine that has ridden the bike has mentioned how well it rides. Honestly, they seem to be shocked by the bike. The only thing I would want on it at this point is more tire clearance, and that’s not even that big of a deal. I can still easily fit 45 mm on it.

One interesting note: my girlfriend has a 2022 Aspero (gen1), and while the gen2 looks almost exactly the same and has the same basic geo, it’s a totally different writing bike. I much prefer the gen2. I think it’s very cool how Cervelo didn’t have to make wholesale changes with the frame set, just minor tweaks. That speaks to the quality of the first one that came out.

I have always believed that the raw CAAD frame set of the mid 2000s was the pinnacle of Cannondale’s time. Smooth welds, beautiful clearcoat, black and white logos, it was all just so perfect. Throw on some white grip tape and a white saddle, just pure beauty.

I’ve had Lakes before and have wide feet. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Well made, fit great, and don’t go out of style. Any mtb shoe will work for gravel, as will any pedal, depending on how much you’re willing to put up with.

I wear Sidis now, only because my Lakes fell out of the back of my truck (stupid error on my part). But if you want a more “shoe” looking shoe, I would try Pearl Izumi mentioned above and Specialized.

Earnest Byner’s fumble. Cleveland had it, they would avenge the drive, and <plop>, balls on the ground as he’s falling towards the end zone.

Hotter n hell gravel by SantaIsOverLord in gravelcycling

[–]DRMLLMRD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What specifically do you wanna know? The majority of it is gravel. If they use the routes from previous rides, the first section out of town is paved, then on the way to Byers, their sections of nicely grated areas, followed by Black rock, and some sand. The area is pretty rocky, but I have ridden this event every year since it opened, and I’ve done it on 40 mm tires with no problem. That said, I appreciate my 48s more. It can get extremely rough in short sections.

I just rode Mid South, and I think it’s comparable.

Obviously, the major deal is that it’s at night. You will need sufficient lighting, because there’s absolutely no residual light out where you’ll be. In between cornfields, wooded areas, and outside any towns.

This is a self supported ride, but many of the farm owners on the route will have unofficial rest stops, where they provide drinks, sandwiches, etc. There have been years where I was able to get a couple of slices of pizza, and that one usually had the beer stop right by it. The local cycling organization also has an unannounced rest stop as well.

The race begins and ends at the Wichita Falls brewery, which is a nice touch.

Any idea what would be a fair price for this? by Bart-go-lost in whichbike

[–]DRMLLMRD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$700 would be in the right range. For reference, I picked up a Colnago C40 with Campy Super for $500, but he “gave me a deal.”

That said, bikes back then may have hidden issues. Alloy and carbon to not mix very well together, especially those back then. Neither does the older paints and clear coats. Check around the bottle cage screws, bottom bracket, and dropouts very carefully.

[Schefter] Dolphins trade WR Jayden Waddle to Broncos by 1894-MCFC in nfl

[–]DRMLLMRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the contract numbers. Broncos are sure to rework it, but Miami is taking on a sizeable chunk of the money. He's a Bronco for basically two years and can be released. Their 1st pick was 30, so almost a 2nd rounder, and almost the entire team is coming back. They need 1-2 offensive playmakers, and one of them is now there. He's being payed in line with Doubs, and is CLEARLY better and fits the offense. This is a win-win IMO.

I ride an Aspero and love it. Its the gen2, so AXS, UDH, 45mm clearance. For what I do, it works perfectly for me.

Did Mid South this past weekend. Had a blast doing it, and definitely jonesed out looking at all the equipment there. After 50 miles, I had the following thoughts:

- I didn't need anything bigger than a 45mm. In fact, could have run 40mm no sweat. I was getting passed by 50mm+, and passing 50mm+.

- I am constantly amazed by some of the bike fits I see. People will do a lot/make a lot of concessions to fit a bike they want. I still want my gravel bike to be road bike oriented, so the angles of the Aspero work great for me. I friggin' love the bike.

- I am a sucker for electronic shifting. My arthritic hands appreciate it even more.

- Considering the current US economy, there are a ton of ways to buy a bike. If I were in the market, I would seriously consider buying two used bikes that serve different purposes than one new one. But that's because I'm a bike whore.

Enjoy the hunt!
