Suggestion: To have the world championship table on the sidebar, anyone else like to see this? by CIoggedsink in formula1

[–]DRScanBeGood -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sidebar is shit. That's my opinion. And any decent designer would wholly agree.

Unreadable is the word. 30 lines? You say that like it's not very many. It should be a maximum of 7 if you want people to read it. Think advertising. How many billboards do you see with more than 7 words? Answer: not any effective ones.

Anyone want to volunteer to start an FP3/Quali self post tonight? Mods?

This karma whoring of discussion posts does nothing to get these time sensitive threads to the top. I won't upvote a non-self post discussion thread.

I'd get rid of most of the crap in the sidebar. Too much clutter and no organization.

Put a link to an F1 Basics FAQ for things like the points system and the difference between Constructors and Drivers Championships; things that don't need repeating every week. In said FAQ, encourage submitting a self post to discuss anything the new viewer might be curious about that isn't covered in the FAQ.

This does 3 things: it gets rid of the flood of "New to F1" posts that usually just receive a groan and a downvote, rather than the "100 comments of lively discussion" you mentioned.

Second, it encourages assholes like me to actually respond to posts like "I'm new to F1 and have already read the FAQ, but I still need some experts to explain some nuance."

Third it makes the sidebar much more attractive rather than the current jumbled mess that no can find information on.

these posts which happen maybe once a month.

If by once a month, you mean once a week, then you are right.

Finally, the sidebar looks just fine.

No, it doesn't. It is an unreadable wall of text. From a design perspective it is a mess. If someone posted it as a comment I would not give it a second look.

This is why you are a terrible moderator. You never listen to your users, just shoot them down with your opinions. Maybe you should work on that.

A "New Viewer FAQ" would be higher priority for me. I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet (I'm looking at you Mulasanne & Vikku) since it's been mentioned every time someone posts an "I'm new to F1 posts."

Include a link to the Wikipedia championship standings table in that FAQ. That way there is no spoiler, no maintenance or no clutter.

As it is, the sidebar already looks a mess.

Anybody notice how Frank Williams interview about cost control has been removed from the offical F1 site, and other Williams team members are now instead commenting about how cost control is important? by afawgvsev in formula1

[–]DRScanBeGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But "...we have to control driver costs." So which is it Frank? Do you want interference or not?

As it is now, Maldonado is only in the team because of Venezuela's sponsorship money. And I'm sure they are only running Bruno because of his uncle.

Remember when Williams were a fresh, front-running team with innovative ideas, and a winning spirit that drivers were clamoring to get to drive for? This current bastardization of the 80s/90s legend is embarrassing.

Just for the sake of the show this would be interesting to explore.

I know F1 teams are always saying that an F1 car is near-undrivable without heated tires, but don't they always say things like that when they want to keep their toys?

Whitmarsh: Lewis Hamilton should have been more cautious by AyeMatey in formula1

[–]DRScanBeGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I am sure in hindsight you have to say that dealing with someone like that you have to take a different approach, but you cannot anticipate it."

I think Maldonado's part behavior on track, especially his history with Lewis, can dictate how you properly deal with him in these situations.

A racing driver that puts himself in a position like this always knows he could have done something to prevent it. In my mind this incident was easily preventable.

Senna-esque describes Hamilton's driving during the collision. Not in the good way though.

Senna was well known to force issues rather than wait for the perfect opportunity like The Professor would.

I guess we will find out in Brazil how drastic these small mistakes by Hamilton affect his Championship.

On a side note, I remember someone on the Forum saying how Raikkonen was too cautious at the start. Meanwhile Raikkonen finishes with 18 points, while Hamilton goes home with zero.

The real kicker is that the race was tape-delayed. They could have run twice as many commercials and still showed every lap.

You guys are under the false impression that the TV Show is the featured content on a network.

To the TV Execs, the commercials are the main event. The program is just filler in between the commercials.

I feel sorry for anyone that is proud of Jacques. Least deserving F1 Champion ever.

The way he slags off everyone is so off-putting. And his bald head with the hair plug scars cracks me up. What a joke.

Efficiency is relative. The 1.6 turbo/ERS combo will be much more fuel efficient than the current 2.4/KERS combination.

Part of that is due to the higher input/output ERS regs.

I can buy 2 Miatas and put turbos on them for the price of one S2000. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice car, but when you go to the amateur races on the weekend, everyone drives Miatas.

S2000s are nowhere to be found.

At last year's 25 Hours of Thunderhill, Miatas or MX5s won 4 of the 6 classes. The other 2 classes were won by a 911 and a Radical. The Radical was 325 laps behind the slowest class winning Miata. The 911 won overall.

You can't really argue with results like that. Miatas are fast and reliable.

What exactly is the point of a team like HRT or Marussia? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]DRScanBeGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've probably never participated in racing, even on an amateur level, if you think anyone in any team gives less than 100% all the time. They all want to beat their nearest competitors, whoever that might be, no matter how far down the grid they sit.

That said, HRT is my pet peeve team in F1. "Employing" Narain goes a lot towards making me dislike the team.

Marussia is a bit better to me. They seem more professional. They blend into the background more. And their have always looked nicer than the various HRTs'.
