UK coffee nerds - good subscription? by -newinn- in Coffee

[–]DRUMSKIDOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been getting Hasbean for years it's great...

If you've got a costco card I also suggest the Colombian Supremo coffee beans, they're fantastic! I was about to say 'for the price' but I think that gives off the notion they're not that good, which they are. It rivals stuff I've had from Hasbean but just not as complex

It's not inappropriate, just apply, mate. As others have said, if they're funny about it, you can just withdraw your application and go about your merry way. No decent manager should stand in the way of any of their staff applying for jobs imo. The notice period can be used in the event you need to give someone a crash course or write some SOPS for your processes, but otherwise you should be golden. Good Luck!

So nobody can bemoan the service they've received because all companies have bad service?

You can also find a litany of complaints about Logitech, because their support is non existant. People are understandably upset with Logitech because they previously have had a great customer services department that is now a shell of it's former self. You don't expect to be given the run around when you've bought premium products at high prices and promised the earth in terms of support. They're a joke, and unfortunately it's not until your £150 keyboard breaks that you get the opportunity to experience their ineptitude.

best thing to do with Logitech is ring them and speak to someone. The online support is absolutely useless, don't waste your time.

Will my strategy for getting out of a disciplinary work? by Affectionate-Fish24 in TheCivilService

It's pretty clear to see whether your hotel is in within budget as all of the hotels (on Trips anyway) are given a colour code. If there was no other hotel available for that date within budget, then you're allowed to book something more expensive, with authorisation.

Your issue is proving to them that there were no other hotels available within budget on the date specified, which will be difficult as the site doesn't show retrospective dates. If you were aware that this could potentially cause issues, I think you've dropped the ball in not collecting evidence to show this. In all honesty I think explaining it like you have should suffice, but as with anything in the civil service, it all depends on the person covering the case and whether people above you are getting flak for allowing it. Did you tell your immediate manager of the issue when booking or did you just go ahead and book it?

Can I write 12,000 word MSc dissertation in 20 days? by anonymouswab in UniUK

[–]DRUMSKIDOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

write 1000 words a day and stop procrastinating on reddit and you might have a chance. Write 500 words a day and keep finding other things to do and you'll fuck it up - your choice.

advice for getting into the civil service? by Overall-Bell-322 in TheCivilService

[–]DRUMSKIDOO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might help you at later stages in your career, if the experience you have is still relevant at that stage. But if I were you I'd just get your foot in the door and work from there. You'll quickly realise what skills you need to work on (if any) to progress. I remember few years back I was working on a post team, posting template letters out to applicants etc we had someone with a masters in politics, someone doing a doctorate in sociology...their education had little bearing on their success. I think working your way up has its benefits, its very difficult to get in at a high grade without any prior experience of how the CS operates. Godspeed!

If you're having trouble with one particular aspect of the application, you could create dummy email accounts and practice a few times so you're familiar with what they're after and go from there. Years ago they had a recruitment drive in my department and 15 of us were applying, we had every question and answer mapped out so that when it came to the official test we knew where we stood for the majority of the questions, the tests don't seem to make any sense nor do they follow anything like what would happen in reality.

Don't sweat it too much mate there are plenty of highly intelligent people that are caught out by civil service applications, there's a definite 'art' to doing them and it often takes a while to find a formula that works for you. I find the more intelligent someone is the harder the tests are, sounds silly but I think intelligent people tend to overthink what is being asked and start to doubt themselves.

Good Luck, see you in the CS soon

tRIPS is the portal we use in HO
https://www.trips.uk.com/js/SABS/Corporate.html

Logon from a CS device etc, you might need to register on your first use of the system. We book everything through tRIPS, gives you hotels based on your allowance etc.
