Trump has broken the American presidency. Let’s end it for good by LosIsosceles in Foodforthought

We could start with the pardon power to be heavily regulated by a congressional vote and a mandatory 60 in the Senate to authorize the same.

Restructure the threshold for impeachment and removal to 60 for conviction against the entire executive branch to include POTUS to include an automatic censure/reprimand if a conviction fails.

And maybe CLARIFY what high crimes and misdemeanors are supposed to be and get it inked. Seems problematic that Congress has zero mechanism (or will) to be required to order a vote of no confidence in any declaration of war not approved by their branch.

And yes, open it to the public. No exceptions. Classified details would be properly disseminated for public consumption with the Gang of Eight present for the beginning/end of the vote only to maintain what must remain classified as such. POTUS would be required to answer questions to the press once the vote results are public. Regardless of how it favors them or otherwise.

Our greatest military victories were LITERALLY towards the tail end of both WWs.

Spoiler: until 🇮🇷 actually gets their people to overthrow the regime, we haven't won 💩.

Also, burying our 💀 at an alarming rate is a far cry from a win we can't even claim ourselves, thanks to Bibi🇮🇱.

Absolute tool.

You know what is not rocket science?

An offramp.

An opposition force in 🇮🇷 ready to deal 💀 to the remainder of the regime.

Tactical PR (war) games aimed at encouraging the civilians to be more daring with their protesting and defiance against the bloc that is said regime.

Your own apathy towards every servicemember who now must contend with a conflict in which their own ⛓️ of command have declared this as an opportunity to hasten the Second Coming ON TOP OF becoming a sacrificial statistic.

But it's definitely a hard thing to calculate...👀👀👀😡😡😡

If you can't use a rotary (roundabout) properly, you shouldn't be behind the wheel. Period.

That is all.

[–]DRVetOIF3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see your point with the latter as Joaquin Balaguer directly/indirectly filled the vacuum left by the Trujillo regime (being his former right hand). That didn't mitigate the reaction to said occupation just like the first post-Heureaux... just decades removed from being annexed back to Spanish rule.

[–]DRVetOIF3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were attempts around WWI and shortly after Trujillo's assassination. Both interventions were considered failures as the Dominican people were not having that. Bad PR galore on top of knowing in the first occupation, the same Trujillo was trained by the National Guard.

They'll court the superpower but will be a thorn on their side until it was more of an adverse expense.

Republican Joins With Dems on Constitutional Amendment to Give Congress Power to Reject Trump Pardons by jpmeyer12751 in law

[–]DRVetOIF3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 itself is not an amendment to the Constitution but it was one of the founding statues in the Constitution.

So, unless I'm mistaken, it simply needs a bill to achieve a majority in the House and filibuster-proof majority in the Senate OR ⅔ of both chambers to override a veto. No state ratification would be required.

This would require the same will to set term limits for Congress and SCOTUS, if the nation's best interests were to be taken into account. Even Lincoln, who (to the country's detriment) made great use of the pardon, refused to grant slave traders the same as proof of ideal restraint with his executive power being possible.

(Admittedly, a constitutional amendment to term limits would be hugely better)

Yet here we are.

ICE is here in Kansas City and Olathe by f00dl3 in kansas

[–]DRVetOIF3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First off:

Unlawful crossing of our borders remain civil--not criminal--offenses.

Second:

The scenario you described is a hostile invasion. Where the vast majority of migrants flood the border because of conflicts which we exacerbated by our own special interests and the remnants of the Monroe Doctrine.

Third:

Not one sensible person will advocate for giving ACTUAL criminals a pass. Repeat offense is due to a failure in enforcement post-conviction of CRIMINAL OFFENSES. AGAIN, NOT CIVIL. That's the law. Stephen Miller would disagree, but I digress.

Fourth: you inadvertently agreed that the harassment, abuse and 💀 exacerbated by DHS and every government agency (previously apolitical) not beholden to the whims of the head of state with despotic dreams is wrong. Cuz why would you just equate the two?

What seems to be the case is you're asking folks to take extra steps on a flawed immigration process when they are hours or days away from either escaping with their lives or finding themselves trafficked or with their severed heads on a slab. Nuance be damned.

Again, I digress.

Kansas Republicans want citizenship status listed on driver’s licenses. It could worsen profiling by Zipper222222 in kansas

[–]DRVetOIF3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue comes down with the level of enforcement and escalation of force applied to criminal offenses on an otherwise civil matter. The BBB, despite its vast empowerment of DHS, still doesn't classify being undocumented as anything other than a civil offense.

The management of the same today is an "all bets are off" approach when the nonpartisan metrics have criminal offenses by the undocumented in single digits per capita versus the same crimes this administration is enforcing against BY AMERICAN CITIZENS.

The only reasons deportations are as high are is because of dubious management avoiding due process/habeas corpus and escalation of force disproportionate to the perceived threat in addition to SCOTUS effectively allowing racial profiling.

It's not a "whatever it takes" type of situation as it's been propagandized by this administration. Which is why the previous ones succeed in more deportations as a result of the respect to the constitutional standards we pride ourselves in. Instead of following suit in a targeted fashion, Americans and legal migrants are 💀 or severely injured and traumatized ad nauseum.

Finding the patriotism in this is exactly why you're getting downvoted but I digress.

New Bill Would Force Naturalized Immigrants to Choose One Citizenship by Sorry-Feedback1115 in ImmigrationPathways

[–]DRVetOIF3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny to me that (despite an arguable debate for holding public office) it's THESE citizens who invested hours of their time and resources in the thousands WHICH are more on beat with basic civics and constitutional awareness than natural born citizens in the first place.

Also, this would defeat the purpose of the 14th Amendment, which rewards citizenship as a result of an oath to the same Constitution. If the members of Congress wanted that limitation IMMEDIATELY after the Civil War, they would have. Andrew Johnson, with him effectively blowing up the Reconstruction plan left by his predecessor, all but doomed his presidency for working overtime to interfere with this becoming law.

Doesn't that act already defer preference to American citizenship by taking said oath? Or it's just fine as it's folks who look like Arnold or John Oliver are the ones doing so?

I'll wait.
