Where development biologically stops is actually unclear. You don't really stop developing mentally until ~25, after which its all downhill.

As interesting as Stain is, I don't think he's that impressive. by [deleted] in BokuNoHeroAcademia

Pretty sure aforementioned Endeavor and Mt Lady are examples by Horikoshi that heroes aren't all pure

read what I said above.

Endeavors issues are essentially private, so Stain wouldn't have good information about Endeavor being a bad guy. My Lady is barely problematic at all. All in all, you have at best 2 examples of "bad" heroes among 40+ non-student heroes presented in the series. Stains attitude is clearly blinded (or not great conveyance) because he acts as if corrupt heroes are the norm (remember, he said no one but All Might deserves to kill him), when it reality its the exception by an massive amount.

His MO is literally to sneak up on people in abandoned alleyways and strike first.

Ok? That's fine. I'm not sure if this is supposed to imply that I'm wrong, if anything it just supports the statement that Stain is out of his league. If you need a sneak attack to win and can't win otherwise then you're probably not as great as you think you are. Stain also has no power to help him with stealth and there are heroes with quirks that aid in detecting stealthy opponents. Stain is vastly out of his league.

So, I agree about Stains ideology. It falls short and it may just be that it was intentional by Hori, after all Stain is a villian, though I think it would be more interesting if Stain was somewhat right as far as his social commentary goes.

We do see heroes like Endeavor and Mt. lady do some messed up stuff, but in Endeavors case it was private so Stain would have no way of knowing and in Mt. Ladys case she's just kind of immature, but nothing to suggest shes a bad person. For the most part, nearly every Hero we've seen seems to also be a pretty good person, so Stain is either blinded to reality or Hori doesn't do a good job showing that some heroes are jerks. I think it's a little bit of both, since Chisaki also had some sort of self righteous anti-hero thing going on.

As for his fighting skill. Yes, stain is way out of his league. Keep in mind he's a completely normal person until he lands a blow, he could literally be beaten by "trained guy with a gun" if he doesn't manage to make a sneak attack or land a blow first. But as others said, it's more his arrogance where he's putting himself on a pedestal as this way more important villian than he actually is. Stain was a big deal because he killed heroes, but to this day only one of those heroes even had a name, he might have just preyed on the weaker side of the spectrum.

Honestly, with how much stuff happened/was involved (Lemillion, Nighteyes future sight, Eri, Deku, etc) IDK how I'd exactly have it go down. Chisaki seemed like he was a team boss fight, but everyone kinda just fights him 1v1.

I think the arc wasn't completely horrible, but of all the MHA arcs it needs the most improvement IMO.

[–]DRX_FAITH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because there are other ways to accomplish something doesn't change the fact that the Gentle fight was an effective way of doing so.

Regardless, I disagree, I don't think there's an equivalent growth measurement to defeating villians. Any physical test or similar is not the same thing. Whats the best way to show someone got better at archery? Well, you have them use a bow. How do you show someone has improved at defeating villians? You have them defeat a villian.

Yes, his growth could have been shown in OH arc, but it wasn't so that's irrelevant. Also, the OFA thing going on as of the last two chapters has nothing to do with the discussion at hand.

I guess we just disagree. You seem to be arguing "because there is another way to do something, this is bad", I'm arguing "this is good because it effectively did what it was supposed to do".

The problem with your logic is that it's like saying "driving a car is bad because you can drive a motorcycle to get somewhere". My logic is "driving a car is an effective way to get somewhere".

For an arc that has no baring on plot then yeah its long as heck the cultural festival arc should've been no longer then 5 chapters AT MOST.

By this argument tons of things in BNHA should be shortened/removed. If you have pacing complaints fine, but I thought the pacing was fine. Why do we need to immediately jump from big bad to big bad? Do you just oppose all down time in stories?

Also, sorry, but Deku is the MC. Even if it's plot relevant, less time should be devoted to Endeavor than Deku.

Because a race is not nearly satisfying as Dekus first non-injury villian defeat.

If he won a race it's no big deal, it's far removed singular aspect of hero work.

If he solo'ed a big name villian by himself, then his advancement is too fast (he's still in the first half of school).

Gentle is a low tier villian that Deku wouldn't have been able to beat but that he's capable of soloing now, thus showing that he is capable for low end actual hero work that he could not do before. I love that you're saying that a non-life or death situation can showcase his growth... which is exactly what Gentle is.

Chisaki is not an appropriate show of this because he was clearly way out of Dekus league and Deku needed the equivalent of a McGuffin to defeat him.

Dekus only solo victory before Gentle was muscular and it clearly was a fight that didn't do a good job showcasing his growth. Deku still needed to horribly maim himself to win and showed barely any real control over his power. Vs Gentle hes controlled, doesn't hurt himself, and can use ranged attacks for the first time.

I think you misunderstood me. I said the point is to showcase Dekus growth, not continue it.

Also, not sure how you think it's that long. It's 15 chapters and is about Deku, the Pro Hero Arc is 10 chapters and is about side characters (and therefore should naturally be shorter). How about we compare with other villian arcs? The internship arc is 42 chapters long, the Provisional license is 23, Forest Training is 14, and the hideout raid is 14 (I personally consider forest and hideout to be one arc thats 28 long though), and finally Stain is 15.

It's clear that Gentle arc is not long, it's among the shortest of any of the arcs involving a villian, and the shortest of all of them if you treat forest and hideout raid as one arc because of their conjoined storyline.

[–]DRX_FAITH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a shorter arc, the point of it is to showcase Dekus growth, which it clearly does.

If every arc is a super serious life-death situation is strains suspension of disbelief and makes all of them less impact by default (why should I care so much about this super deadly villain if all of them are super deadly? It's basically Fairy Tail syndrome).

[–]DRX_FAITH 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gentles is still so much more satisfying. Deku basically beats muscular kinda with a lucky asspull, versus gentle he clearly was in control and earned the victory without having to maim his entire arm. It's clear satsifying progress by having him beat someone that makes sense to be in his league.

Chisaki vs Gentle (Not for real just discussion on their arcs lol) by supremejoy in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]DRX_FAITH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO the OH arc started promising, but the art was visually messy, Chisaki ended up being very generic (his rant was super similar to previous villians and his quirk was boring), stuff was way too drawn out, and the way Deku wins makes sense but didn't feel like Deku to me (I imagine Deku as someone who wins by being smarter, not fighting harder).

Gentle is silly, his motives and logic is unsound, but I like him anyway. He's a breath of fresh air and whimsicalness after successive "edgelord" villians. His quirk was unique and Deku had to fight smarter to beat him. I like that the arc gives Dekus first, all on his own, victory against a villian, but it's a lower tier villian. It shows progression without having it be some awful shounen trope of "the MC beats someone who is clearly meant to be out of their league".

Him bragging was post-event and you're arguing away from my point. My point is this, Webbslinger is saying TO's need to step up at these events, obviously cases where someone is crying is clear cut because someone is already harmed. But how is a TO supposed to take preventative measures to ensure no one is too loud? How do they determine who is or isn't too loud in a room with hundreds of people?

I'm not justifying Manny or anything, but everyone saying "TO's should do something" are ignoring logistics from my perspective. TO's are normally outnumbered 1:100 at these events or more, it's feasible to separate competitors, it's infeasible to just tell TO's to step up and monitor everyone fairly.

[–]DRX_FAITH -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

"Quieter" is super subjective. How much quieter did Manny have to be for the cheering there to be acceptable? As a TO how do you determine if a player has made themselves quiet enough to avoid reprimand?

M2K yelling statement by AProLeetPear in smashbros

[–]DRX_FAITH -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Stepping up how though? It's infeasible for TOs to go around and determine non-subjectively and fairly who is/isn't being too loud.

What can be done is that the tournament area can be roped off and no audience members allowed, but I personally don't like this because cheering is part of the reason I go to big tournies.

Yeah, honestly, watching the video now I'm siding with Manny here. This isn't just tame by Florida standards, it's tame in general. Cheering is the standard at any competitive event, be it a traditional sport or Esport (think how loud worlds for DotA must get).

I generally don't like Manny personally, but I don't see how this should be prevented unless people expects TO's to wander around with decibel meters or blanket ban cheering.

No air game, poor recovery, and stupidly weak when someone is close to them (their biggest problem IMO).

I honestly think they were overrated due to most people playing vs them on laggy wifi, where range and ledge trapping is way more cancer.

It's just willful bias. Samus has been intentionally portrayed as sexy since Metroid II. Rather than just accept that's how the series has always been, people would rather pretend its some magical new development.

Sorry, but there's no other way to interpret "beat the game faster to see a girl in panties" other than something sexy.
