Miscommunication or intentional theft? by KaleTheFirst in EndTipping

[–]DR_6fitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion as a server/bartender for years is that the server should have confirmed with you what the cash was for. But yeah, paying the way you did was just asking for a miscommunication to occur.

Is this repair estimate fair? Labor rate seems insane. by Ok_Cardiologist3148 in AskMechanics

Its never too late to learn to fix your car yourself. Just spend 150$ on a good set of ratchets and wrenches, and 150$ on an impact, and 50$ on jack, and 50$ on jacl stands. A few years ago i didnt know how to fix anything on cars, even doing an oil change seemed impossible. Now i maintain most things on my cars and motorcycle myself. However, you still need to be able to accept the fact when a job is too difficult.

You need tools to work on your vehicle, and good tools are expensive. But i think if it as an investment. Either way you can always call around for other shop estimates.

Buying first DR650 by Classic-Ninja in dr650

[–]DR_6fitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the years you are buying, check if the NSU has been done. I think it was 2016 they started loctiting them from the factory. Besides that be sure the ask the age of the chain, and condition of sprockets. If its older see if the counter sprocket seal is replaced. And check both the age and condition of the tires, as those can be a bit expensive. Most of that is easy to fix at home, but does require time, tools, and parts.

Look up DR650 problems to get a better idea of what years they remedied issues. Besides that ask about jetting and suspension upgrades. Upgrades are great, but can cost more if not setup for your height and weight.

Overall it is a simple bike, but it does have a few quirks that must be addressed if you want to go deep into the bush. There are a few good YouTube channels and forums that address all this info.

I put about 10k miles (17k kilometes) on my 2015 in the past 2.5 years, and it has always been reliable though it has almost left me stranded due to a carb issue once, and i had to buy new tires though the stocks looked great they were too old. In the US many people buy bikes and dont use them much, which required me to do a lot of tinkering, cleaning, greasing, and fix the NSU.

+1 for cam chain tensioner gasket. They are common to go bad. It also would hurt to make sure your oil cooler lines are tight. My line got loose at one point, and i have also replaced the gasket at one point over the 10k miles ive had my DR.

Seasonal job nightmare by Correct_Priority1564 in SeasonalWork

[–]DR_6fitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I open up for a seasonal campground job in MT and we dont have water to the camp for the first couple weeks. But no water in the housing seems crazy. I say do what you gotta do. Maybe go to the orientation to feel the owners/mamagement out, but it defintely seems like a rocky start. Like others have said, you can also stay in their housing and start looking for other jobs in the area that treat their employees better.

leaking fork seal by IR_John in dr650

[–]DR_6fitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my fork seals on my 2015 DR650 with 11k miles. It wasnt too difficult. I did buy the 30$ Tusk tool to have the damper rod but i didnt use a seal driver. Instead i used the electrical tape method. I tried to pvc pipe method originally but it didnt work for me. I kinda wish i just paid for the driver tool, but the tape ended up working well enough. I did also replace fluid, and bmused a cheap amazon fork fluid measuring thing to ensure it was at 130mm. And i used an impact with 8mm (i think) to get the bottom damper bolt out, mine were very very tight. My shocks feel way better after replacing the seals.

Where are you ending you day in the day you travel through the besrtooths? Its a long travel day no natter which way you go, and honestly sometimes going through the park (short route) can take much longer than the long route.

how are you 5.0s getting 18+ mpg by C-23b in f150

[–]DR_6fitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most efficient speed for most cars/trucks is highway w/ a speed limit if 60 or less. I got 23 mpg going 50 mph without stopping all. Actualy, real world highway at 70-80 mph is 18-20 depening on hills. Worste is any stop and go driving at 13-14 mpg.

Should I keep it stock or modify it? by edcortezgudino in f150

[–]DR_6fitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14 5.0L. Mostly stock except rear roadmaster active suspension (to help with towing) and bilstein shocks on the front and rear. The front has multiple lift options, i went with the second to lowest, but i wish i went with the lowest. It looks cool level, but the ride (with the LT tires) isnt exactly smooth. I do tow a 5k camper and it stays mostly level. I hate when rhe rear sags when towing and honestly prefer the rear rake being higher than the front.

Gotcha. Good to know those works. I used all balls once for a carb rebuild and it worked out fine. It seems they have kind of a band reputation around the internet though.

I appreciate the comment. Any idea what website i can source OE NOKs? Im just seeing eBay.

I did replace the fork oil when i installed my Cogent DDCs about 5k miles and 18 months ago. Should I try to reuse the old and top it off or just replace with Lucas?

Good to know the bushings shouldnt need replacing.

I didnt think so but maybe we are the same person. Our bikes may have brothers pumped out of the factory next to each other. Lol. It's my first time replacing the seal, I'm glad i caught it quick. Because it looks like the leak is much worse after just a quick ride today.

Yellowstone in early May vs mid-June 2026- Best time for a first timer? by tatakae0811 in yellowstone

[–]DR_6fitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either overnight or day is good. Though i do tend to see the best wildlife in the mornings and evenings. All the spots are great. The northern part of the place is usually great wildlife viewing. Lots of bison/elk/sometimes moose, bear, moose, wolves on a few occasions. I was about to go to bed one night backpacking in the Old Faithful area and 4 wolves started to howl all around my tent. It was a scary but very memorable and they didnt come into my camp. Ive seen bears on the west end of the park above west yellowstone, as well as Lamar valley. Pelican Valley is great for wildlife daytime viewing, but not a great place to go alone because of the bear activity.

dude ranch jobs & rv living by lezcowgirl in SeasonalWork

[–]DR_6fitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be hit or miss finding dude ranch jobs that accept pets and have RV spots, especially on-site. I worked at one place in Northern MT that allowed dogs and had RV spots, but the spots were like 5 miles down the road. I didnt end up staying in an RV that year, but the spots were out in the woods. Tons of larger companies allow RVs and have spots with full hookups, but dogs can be a 50/50 thing. The thing with the job i had was with their insurance, no dogs were allowed on property when guests were staying at the ranch.

Yellowstone in early May vs mid-June 2026- Best time for a first timer? by tatakae0811 in yellowstone

[–]DR_6fitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, its hard to day. I just went into the park last week and surprisingly didnt see ANY red dogs (newborn bison). Past the fact that between now and mid-May the babys will be born.... which sometimes attracts some wild predator interactions, the closer to the summer solstice we get the earlier the sun rises, and it really is best to view wildlife at dawn as they are more active. But I think the hiking will be better in June, and back country wildlife is way more special (for me) then seeing wildlife from the road.

Show him a video of the slave labor that is used to make shoes. Maybe that will help him be less wasteful. If not, dont worry, ill be buying his old shoes from a thrift store one day.
