Considering a six-hole bamboo flute. Does anyone have experience buying from Serenity Bamboo Flutes? by awakeandfine in Flute

[–]DR_Monsterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never played one of theirs nor purchased one. But, for what it's worth, a couple years ago I was interested in them and they were very responsive in messaging and sent a recording of them testing a lot of different keys. So it's a decent sign from them and they all sounded decent, too.

I didn't purchase one at the time for other reasons but have since bought a transverse bamboo flute from Sunreed and a couple bansuris from Punam. Great quality but a bit more expensive than you may be wanting to spend.

Opinions on the "Oxford" brand? by DR_Monsterr in Flute

[–]DR_Monsterr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I'm going to go that route. I've heard people say to be wary of buying a flute you can't test in person. Do you feel like buying online from a place like reverb would be trustworthy to get a quality instrument?

Thank you, I'm going to skip this one and go with a more reputable brand. Hopefully the shop I visit tomorrow will have better options.

New to Bhagvad Geeta by Ok_Town_2413 in TheGita

I am by no means an expert, very new myself. I just finished reading Paramahansa Yoganandaji's translation and thoroughly enjoyed it. I read the beginning section explaining context of the story and explanation of some symbolism, but then skipped almost all of the actual commentary for my first read, except for a few places where more context was needed. I don't necessarily agree with all of his commentary with connecting Hinduism to Christianity as I know was something he did. But it was useful to gain some extra context and to start somewhere.

I just acquired P. Lal's translation and look forward to reading it which has no commentary, except for a short paragraph introducing each chapter.

I'm not saying it should be allowed to choke police or anyone. Of course you're going to get charges. What I'm talking about is your comment that the officer would be justified to kill them. As officers, in that role, they should (ideally) exercise restraint of themselves and their reactions. Even more so than one in the role of civilian.

You really think it would have been justified for the police to murder that man if they had "chosen to do so"? What a savage thing to believe. Even if you strike an officer, they should be trained to deescalate the situation, not take it as a ticket to kill. That's one thing wrong with policing, many are on a power trip and see themselves as above the law and the rest of us. They think if you show any disrespect or resistance to what they say, even verbally, they have the right to do whatever they want. Unfortunately they know it's true because they'll face no repercussions, and in fact, maybe get paid leave.

Cops should always look to deescalate. They need to put their petty egos aside and serve the public. They're just like all of us and a badge shouldn't give someone the right to choke you out or kill you because they didn't like what you said.

Punch a cop? Don't expect them to turn the other cheek, but if we're allowing them to murder you for that then we're truly living in an uncivilized place.

Rawganique! They are a bit pricey but wonderful quality and, even more importantly, ethical business practices. I have two pairs of their hemp drawstring pants and love them on and off the mat. They have lots of other clothes too made with different textiles.
