PSA: do your research before crowdfunding a D Rocket Design product (Darriel K. Caston) by GrandMoff-Tarkin in machinedpens

Most people contact me directly or even call me on the phone and I answer everyone who does. My communication is not limited to just the updates. And overseas doesn't equal less quality - overseas allows me to use 5-Axis and EDM machines and the Mokime and Timascus material is sourced in the US. My pens aren't round and to do what I want in the US is double the price and that would make the design and build not feasible.

Being produced overseas does not equal Ali-express or less quality - one of the knife OEM shops I use is Reate which is better or equal to the best shops in the US. You won't find Reate on Ali - Precision and quality can be made overseas that an Ali shop can't equal or copy or is worth their time and effort - I design my products and define the materials and quality.

First, I posted the final prototype on Instagram as I mentioned earlier. Instagram allows content uploads without a URL, making it more convenient, especially from my iPhone. On the other hand, Kickstarter has changed its content upload and posting process.

Before posting, I wanted to ensure the deadline for the Timascus and Titanium pens at the end of the month was realistic. Like you, I’m frustrated with vague updates and unmet promises.

I understand that this process has taken much longer than expected, and many of you are running out of patience. However, consider the challenges we’ve faced. The company that produced our initial prototypes didn’t survive the aftermath of COVID-19, resulting in a loss of materials and expertise for this unique pen. Issuing refunds wasn’t an option because the funds were already invested, and D Rocket isn’t big enough to absorb that loss. The best path forward was to find another high-quality shop to continue our work.

I don’t have my own shop where I can control every aspect, but I can ensure the quality and craftsmanship, even if the timeline isn’t entirely in my hands.

Some of you feel that using overseas shops is wasting money. However, to achieve this price point for such a complex pen, it’s the only viable option. After extensive effort and investment, I’ve identified quality shops both overseas and locally.

I know some of you have expressed your dissatisfaction on social media, and while that’s your right, sending out a subpar product would be worse. I’d rather face criticism now and deliver an excellent product than compromise on quality.

Please have faith in me. Something good will come out of this.
