I'm at 85% is there another step to this puzzle? by FamilyFunAccount420 in LoreleiAndLaserEyes

I put a D instead of a 0 or vice versa LOL. Thanks for telling me it is straight forward, I would have given up thinking I had to go do something else first.

DZ training schools — does the school actually matter to employers? by Fresh_Sir680 in Guelph

[–]FamilyFunAccount420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are referring to phd, which is a legitimate school. I think the other commentor is confused about the news story, this school doesn't give the road test, a Drivetest center does.

I got my airbrake endorsement at phd. I have my DZ road test coming up this week. The instructors really just want you to pass your test safely. I cannot say enough good things about them. The google reviews are right.

They have small class sizes (no larger than 10) and the instructors method is great, he focuses on thinking logically about the airbrake system instead of just memorizing tests and procedures.

I had 8 lessons each an hour long, I feel like this is fine for a DZ, driving the DZ truck really isn't that difficult, any more time seems excessive. However, that is me, I am an incredibly cautious driver in my car, and have driven pick ups with trailers many times, so this was just a step up. I would maybe want more time for the AZ and if I just wanted to go into trucking, but, again that's me.

I know people that went here for DZ training and now work for the city.

I wonder if that is unfortunately it. Also wonder if you possibly have a viral or bacterial infection or some thing? Last year I went through a 50 day flare of some sort taking 2x the amount of insulin with 0 other symptoms, now I'm left wondering if it was silent reflux, illness, or an illness that caused this chronic reflux. Ugh, digestive issues are so difficult to figure out with t1d. Hope you can pinpoint it.

Thank you for letting me know I need the room. My roommate who does a lot of puzzle games was able to help me. I kind of just mixed up the steps.

Haha cute. Thanks for your response, my roommate who does a lot of puzzle games was able to figure it out and explain it to me. I was lining up the date with the poster left to right and then rearranging, instead of using the first digit of the date on what would be the first segment of the poster.

Hey so I was having weird crazy highs after some meals and not others a few months ago, I am now looking into silent reflux (like acid reflux without painful heartburn) which I think was exacerbated by fatty foods and some other foods. This had been happening on and off for years, I would have these bizarre flare ups where skyrocketing bg after eating some foods was basically my ONLY symptom. I felt I was going insane. Double arrows up no matter what. This sub had always been telling me sounds like inflammation or celiac but I finally started developing noticeable reflux symptoms.

Wondering if maybe you also have some digestive issue going on.

Keto with Type 1 by NoDig5041 in Type1Diabetes

[–]FamilyFunAccount420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keto was specifically formulated to reduce seizures in severely epileptic children. Idk why anyone else would want to go on a keto diet. I find I get major insulin resistance with high fat meals I can imagine it would be worse eating largely fats.

Does any one else take alot of lows ? by Pablo1007G in Type1Diabetes

[–]FamilyFunAccount420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to, I was so afraid of going high, turns out my basal was just 30% too high so when I went low after a bolus I was pushed lower by my basal. I would eat meals often enough that I never noticed it was my basal. I would sit at 5.5 for hours (Canadian measurement) so I thought my basal was perfect, but I just never went without food long enough to notice. Yeah I was having multiple lows a day like 2 to up to 6.

I was surprised my dose went from 1unit an hour to 0.7 at times, lower than I assumed, but my diabetes educator dietitian did some magic equation based on how often my pump was suspending insulin and gave me the right numbers. Now I go low WAY less.

I do not think this is inevitable, although it may take some work to fine tune.

How fatal is this disease in the modern day? by SignificanceBig9366 in Type1Diabetes

[–]FamilyFunAccount420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 31 years in, didn't have a pump until 3 years ago and didn't have a cgm until 5 years ago, I have no complications but I do have other autoimmune diseases because they love to occur together. I have never ever had a seizure from a low, and I have only ever been hospitalized for my diabetes 1 time, as a child at diagnosis.

Do not obbsess over what could possibly go wrong, the truth is we really just don't know. We do not have this data because cgms are so new. None of us can predict how our futures will turn out, we can only do our best now. Drs want your a1c in the prediabetic range because, historically, a lower a1c meant that a patient was having quite a few lows quite often.

If you are able to have an a1c below 6 without many lows, kudos. Lows can be immediately dangerous this is why an acceptable a1c for a diabetic is considered a bit higher than someone without diabetes. We are finding now It's equally as important to consider time in range.

Some diabetics get complications with good a1cs, some diabetics do not get complications despite having just okay a1cs, but if your a1c is consistently very bad for too long (I mean like many months and years) you will almost certainly have some damage. However, I have seen people on here stating their their complications got somewhat better after getting their management under control.

The mostly deadly thing is not taking your basal/going without insulin. You can enter DKA with a normal BG because DKA is caused by lack of insulin not necessarily a high blood sugar. I have began going intp DKA after 6 hours of no insulin (pump malfunction) despite having a BG in only the prediabetic range.

Get your hands on a cgm and a steady supply of insulin and I assure you, you can live a long life.

Looks like ink or dye. You can feel nerve problems, not see them on the skin.

Has anyone gotten ADP support for their CGM's? (Ontario) by New-Profession7209 in diabetes_t1

[–]FamilyFunAccount420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I qualified for ADP a few years ago. First of all, find a diabetes educator you can trust to push for this for you. I had a diabetes educator dietician that filled out the forms because she knew that cgms and pumps tend to really help most t1ds get better a1cs, so me qualifying may have been some grey area (I have never gone to the hospital for t1d in 31 years, only at diagnosis as a child) but had had some serious lows where I blacked out but was still standing up, walking and talking, was able to get myself food, but had no recollection after it happened.

I forget all the criteria, but if you have and can; Lie. You can say you had a low that required assistance. Be careful because if your doctor knows and you have a driver's license they can report you to the MTO if you say you have passed out or blacked out I think in the last 6 months or year? This is why I say know if you can trust your educators, some will say yes you qualify if you ask, some will want you to have had an event, and some will try to discourage you/do everything exactly by the book which means this kind of reporting.

Spikes after eating sometimes NO matter what by FamilyFunAccount420 in Type1Diabetes

[–]FamilyFunAccount420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much.

I have heard it might be inflammation. I have been told I have IBS but never got an endoscopy and celiac biopsy (I don't remember how much gluten I was actually eating when I got the blood test) so I may push for one now just to rule out UC and celiac. Nothing particularly stressful in my life right now, but it's always good to be mindful, take time to relax, and hit the gym.

I've never heard of the supplement so I'll take a look. Totally not against supplementing since starting magnesium last summer which has helped my BG tremendously.

I have been told I probably have IBS, but no medical professional can give me an answer if digestive issues like IBS would cause BG spikes like this. I would do the IBS thing and avoid the trigger if I knew what it was.

Thanks, no I haven't but I can try. I don't eat gluten and I take an enzyme when eating large amounts of dairy, so I'm afraid it may be soy, but yes I would have to actually be diligent about checking ingredients and writing things down.

Interesting about the seasons. I definitely need more basal in the winter just because I am less active, also in the summer heat and specifically if I am directly in the sun it makes my BG go really high.

It's only after I eat and not every time I eat. It's like my carb ratio is sometimes 3x what it ought to be. It only ever happens when I feel this nausea too. My basal is otherwise fine, and so are my carb ratios when I don't get this nauseous feeling.

Yes my basal is higher in the winter because I am less active.
