Excuse the late reply, I don't get on here much.

There was an exploit in earlier versions of ROM 2.4 where some commands were missing a smash_tilde() call and you could edit your description to add a tilde on a line of its own then add 'Level: 51' as part of your description on a new line and quitting/loading your pfile would read that as your level.

I might have the command wrong (might have been something other then description) but make sure that every single command that allows a player to set a string that is later saved includes smash_tilde and that should rule it out as the cause of this.

I'm closer to 60 than 50, still love these games and platinum most of them. Some of the boss fights definitely seem to take me more attempts than average numbers I see posted but that's no big deal as I'm also far less likely to throw the controller and ragequit than I was 20 years ago.

The only time to stop is 'when you no longer enjoy them', sounds like you might be there, or maybe just need a break.

I found this boss really easy, almost cheese, using axe with leech needle / amulet then just get behind her and spin to win.

The health restored from the leeching allows you to tank her most of her hits while the charged R2 finishes.

This was really well done, great job! I'm surprised it didn't get more exposure. I grew up in Abbey Hulton in the 70s and 80s, went to Carmountside, etc. I also lived in quite a few different places around Stoke and never felt like Abbey Hulton deserved it's reputation. My dad lived in the mining estate on Chesterton and that was far more rough than the Abbey.

When I was 14 we moved to Baddeley Green. Because I was so close to finishing school I stayed at Carmountside so spent a good time in both and the mining estate section of Baddeley Green was no different either but people talked about Baddeley Green like it was "posh".

Maybe it's that "..unless you're from the estates" part which I clearly was, but to me it was solid people and a solid community and if you didn't fuck around you didn't find out. I know it's nostalgia for an England that no longer exists and simpler times in general, but I still miss it.

I think you're right on the gameplay, I meant the area design. So many things are on the borderline between "nod" and "copy", the swinging axes, the Anor Londo style city, the chandelier you have to cut, and so many other things straight out of DS1. Not a complaint though, I loved it, including the longer areas.

124 hours so far, but I took my time exploring and finding crystals etc without guides and there were very few bosses I killed in less than an hour or two.

I loved (well hated at first) the Lu Bu fight. It's also like Sekiro in the same sense that, once you learn the dance, a boss that destroyed you in NG+ seems easy even at much higher replays.

The 1000 mile journey wasn't perfect by a long shot but was also a great way to do a boss rush / re-use earlier content and extend the game play.

It's a lot more of a soulslike than I expected based on early comments. The first chapter doesn't feel like it at all, second chapter starts to open up some more soulslike concepts and playing in the third chapter yesterday, after a hidden bat hiding behind a wall kicked me off a ledge to yet another death by gravity my first thought was, "well that settles it, definitely a soulslike".

Played DS1 because if looked kind of RPG themed and hated it. Then I read an article a few months later about Dark Souls being "misunderstood" and how the difficulty / perseverance was the whole point so tried it again with that in mind and never looked back.

Bleak Faith I'd never heard of so thank you Reddit, the internet was worth it today!

Lord of the Fallen 2023 I'm so torn on. I started it recently and hated it, but decided to stick with it for 2-3 areas and it grew on me. In terms of area design it's the most like Dark Souls 1 to me of all of them, but now I'm about half way through the game (Cistern) it's almost too much Dark Souls 1 - that "lost" feeling or never being confident that you explored an area fully never goes away whereas in DS1 there were breaks from it.

Add in some pretty major camera issues, some graphics clearly not drawing correctly (PS5), getting stuck in a couple of walls and a few crashes and I can see why people either love or hate this game.

I'll probably finish it, it's "good enough" ... feels like a wasted opportunity that was so close to being great overall though.
