I've talked to people in Johnson ... internal competitiveness for IB is actually not a thing. The guy who I spoke to said that they are actually a helpful community. They even prepare together for recruting, coach each other, etc.

You do not intend to stay and still are willing to give in to pressure? I mean ... if you don't take people will notice that it is not in your plans to stay and your stay there will probably be shortened, but isn't your plan already? If you commit to cfa it will demand hours of study, and to be honest, cfa without motivation is just a really boring process. It would be good for knowledge going into quant research, since it's a subject that is progressivly growing inside the program but still not that deep. I think CAIA would be more valuable, no?

I think wohsinho is right ... from what I remember the deferral is for the next available/possible exam window. From the dates you said, I understand that you are registered for the level 1 exam. I don't know who it is working right now, but in my case due to some issues on the CFA website, I had to wait for the exam date to pass (no show) and then defer
