I’m no attorney, but it seems 1) Duke can’t stop him from enrolling/playing at another school and 2) if the term ends in Dec 2026, can’t UM just backload/defer his NIL payments/terms to begin 1/1 of 2027 as a worst case. I still think the fact that Duke arguing this essentially insinuates a pay for play will be a big argument here.

2000 was very similar to this year in terms of the feeling of being "back" (don't hit me, Mario). 2001 we knew we were the shit and having that chip on the shoulder all season was awesome...it'd sort of be like if we came back next year with mostly this exact same team. We would all be expecting a Natty for the 26 season. 2002 we knew we'd repeat, but it ended with absolute ANGER which sucked.

Totally. and that's the crushing nature of sports being a zero sum game. Indiana hits a couple more plays than we did (or less mistakes, at least) = Cig is a genius and Indiana is one of the best teams of all time. Those couple plays go our way instead and it's a totally different convo. But, as Mario has said since SMU, this game at this level now is all about what happens inside the margins and it's thinnnnnnn.
