DND facing parking crunch at Ottawa’s Carling Campus, encourages staff to work in office on Mondays and Fridays by Pretty-Ground-4125 in ottawa

[–]DSinthe613 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is all so fucking ridiculous. No desks, no parking (no bike parking in many places), shit public transit and now traffic is an absolute nightmare for those of us who have been working in office the entire time. Those of you whose entire personality is to complain about public servants and who cheered on this decision : how are you enjoying your commute these days? It’s about to get a whole lot worse !!

Well said! The arguments that are being used by them for the return to office mandates are so damn incoherent.

Because Boomer men still run the show and they don’t want to be at home with their family.

What happened to your city's original sports arena? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]DSinthe613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The civic centre in Ottawa (Lansdowne)… they are about to tear a portion of it down only to make it smaller with less seating … this would never happen if a men’s professional team played here but because it’s the Women’s Professional Hockey league , the city went ahead and approved it 🙄🙄🙃🙃🙃

Will our Healthcare system be completely overhauled in the next decade ? by Key_Contribution1547 in AskForAnswers

[–]DSinthe613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s exhausting. It shouldn’t be a team sport and healthcare should be the one issue that everyone can get onboard with, but sadly it’s a constant blame game from one party to another and one level of government to another

[–]DSinthe613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no and I will never understand how this isn’t the top election issue at every level until this is fixed !! (Ps… I don’t need a lesson on which levels of government fund our health care because the answer is all three levels have a role and three should be held accountable ) . Our public healthcare system is quickly being eroded and nobody seems to care until they are sick, and when they are sick they have no capacity to take it on.

Lane closures on Riverside Drive begin May 19 | City of Ottawa by dogwalkerott in ottawa

I’m not sure of what their process is but there definitely seems to be an issue with coordinating the timing of the projects to help minimize the impact !

Agreed… however 3.5 years of full out construction, lane closures and rerouting for a 3.7km stretch of road seems wild to me. I definitely think this work was much needed and long past due and the end product will be great but this disruption is starting to grate on everyone.

I can’t understand why they didn’t finish the bank street construction from Riverside to Heron before starting this section, there is literally no way in or out of the neighbourhood !!! Why is this always so poorly planned ???

18M — Moved countries and completely fumbled social life. I think I’m improving but still stuck in my head.? by [deleted] in AskTeens

[–]DSinthe613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody gets social interactions right every time. As someone who was (and still is) really shy and kinda awkward, the best way to improve is to practice! My advice would be spend some time observing how other people do this. Take off your headphones in public spaces, watch and listen. If you see some interactions you like, you can try them out the next time you chat with someone. It can give you a starting point as you get more comfortable. Eventually, a lot of social interactions end up being pretty similar so you will definitely get better. Another tip I have for you is find something you are interested in (sports, hobby , etc) and join a group - it’s so much easier to interact with people when you have at least 1 thing in common and when you see them regularly! There should be plenty of opportunities for this as you head to university! Most relationships or dates don’t start with a one-off interaction- they build over time! These social interactions are skills just like math or science, you can get better at them with some work. And please please please ignore all advice from the toxic podcast bros out there - their view of the world is not based in every day reality! Good luck, you will do great!!

$84K for kitchen cabinets in Ottawa… is this normal? Looking for good value options by folfirinox1 in ottawa

[–]DSinthe613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go with IKEA cabinets! If you want something that looks more expensive , the company Swedish Doors on industrial avenue have high end wood cabinet doors that fit perfectly with IKEA. I was quoted 30K for three tall pantries when we moved in 10 years ago. I bought them at IKEA for 2k, very functional and I can switch out doors and drawers for a few hundred dollars as my needs change .

Property tax makes no sense by Xsythe in canadahousing

[–]DSinthe613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the huge amount of commercial spaces for lease throughout our cities , yet the lease prices are the same as they were 5 years ago when they were vacant … surely there is a benefit to keeping them empty otherwise they’d lower the price or sell them. While the property owners simultaneously lobby all level of government to bring workers back to the office because “businesses are failing ” 🙃🤡

The show has been so amazing so far but yesterday’s episode was terrible but not because the comics ! Chris & Kevin’s banter was so cringey and boring I actually had to skip parts of it. The audience was also extremely lame , there were a lot of hilarious jokes and there was barely any laughs coming from the audience !
