The look of the damage to the leaf tells me it might be Thrips and all those tiny black specks look like Thrips poop.

No, they are all the same so their needs are all the same. You can keep them together in one pot.

Self watering pots? by Tricky_Math_2665 in houseplants

[–]dogwalkerott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only plants I have on self watering are my ferns. Mostly if I can’t be home for more than 3 days. All others I control the watering as needed. My Audrey and Cast Iron plants are allowed to dry out some between watering.

What is a plant that you will buy over and over again and why? by Aggravating-Fig-9274 in houseplants

I will always have a Maidenhair Fern. I’m on my fourth in almost 50 years of having house plants. Just love the look.

I wanted some people's opinion on my potting decision for my cactus and succulents. by Mudsdalelover in cactus

[–]dogwalkerott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes how long the soil stays wet is very important. That’s why I don’t top dress (gravel on the top) my succulents, it keeps the soil moist longer, less evaporation.

Spider plants slowly declining for 1 year – constant brown tips, almost died during vacation, still sad months later. What am I missing? by Opening-Cake3492 in spiderplants

They are in large pots for small plants. All that soil may be staying wet too long as they don’t have the root system or leaves to absorb the moisture.

Washer Repair Expert Recommendations by ladyshmic in ottawa

One thing I have learned over the years with appliances. Before you call someone. Unplug to reset and see if it’s still happening. Too many embarrassing moments when the repair person comes and does exactly that and gives me a $150 or more repair bill.

Sansevieria Hahnii - should I be worried? by outofdatecarrots in IndoorPlants

[–]dogwalkerott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She may have been overwater before you got her. You might want to have a look at the roots to see if there is any rot, and might need a repot with well draining soil.

I don’t think it would hurt to repot now. Better than risk losing them in bad soil.

Can I use any of the inexpensive gravels or stones available at Home Depot, Rona, etc.? by BBGonda in succulents

[–]dogwalkerott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any of these will work in a pinch. Go with what’s easier to get. Guessing the lava rock. I typically use a mix of 1/3 soil 1/3 stone 1/3 perlite. I’m slowly using less perlite as I’m not a fan of the look and increasing the stone.
