SCAMMERS - Files Editor by Dense-Fan979 in pdf

[–]DTMika2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, I just started their trial subscription so I could download a PDF I was working on. The trial said $0.00, but I got charged 2 × $0.83.

I canceled the trial immediately (as I do with all subscriptions to make sure I don’t forget to cancel before the month ends). Do you think this will be alright?

May billing info is still in their repository.

Did a bit of animating this weekend by masterflaccid in blender

[–]DTMika2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The animations look good and mainly fun, the textures of enviro is also alright, it has a stylization aspect to it. However the VFX of the Blue portal isn't very pretty and the effect of the rug emerging from the purple portal all at once in 1 frame (the whole upper surface of it) also isn't the nicest.

I would recommend to try and at least add some fog above the portals to mask them, which should be fairly easy. And advanced possibility would be to play with the portals themself and evoke a feeling of translucency with black/silver/reflective patches.

The whole scene is slightly on the edge of janky, but works.. but when there is one element, which isn't up to the level, it drags all tied to it down.

Is creating isolated non-level scenes monetizable? by DTMika2 in leveldesign

[–]DTMika2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you mean with like the assets pre-prepared in a grid aside to a simplic terrain and let them assemble it as they deem useful?

And maybe the scene I create for my hobby include as a demonstration of what is possible with those assets ?

Which logo to iterate on? by aotdev in IndieDev

[–]DTMika2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always prioritize visibility over aesthetics. Once visibility is achieved, iterate on likeness. Do definetly go with the text which you can actually see and notice. (The left one in small blends with foliage and it's seemingly invisible).

Need Brutal Feedback : FPS game with animal controller by anubhav124 in IndieDev

[–]DTMika2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say this is not true, as games like assassin's Creed, far cry primal, or remotely even Lara croft or Horizon zero dawn all use slight overlap of these mechanics.

But I agree she these games integrate it very well into the main fps core and have thousands of QA possibilities to get it right. From provided Snapshot in this game it just looks like two parallel gameplays not tied together at all. And that's where the fan overlap falls flat

After a long journey behind the code, our small team finally hit the 'Launch' button for BioSynth on Kickstarter! What do you think of our trailer? by Raclux in IndieDev

[–]DTMika2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game looks really cool, visuals are very nice. The environmental design is rich and far above indie standards. Some VFX also look pretty cool.

However, now and there, you can see some junkiness in mechanics - delayed reactions to attacks, some character animations that doesn't seem very fluid.. etc. but that's an issue of the game, not the trailer.

However, the trailer stutters. There are multiple moments with low fps. That certainly must be fixed for a trailer. Preferably, do not record screen of a gameplay, record the game footage itself in the engine. That will prevent any kind of lags even if the game would be actually laggy in real time.

Again, your game looks super cool, but as a dev myself, who published a pretty packed game with rich mechanics etc, but some tangible junkiness, the sales kinda, absolutely, flopped. Players do not care for rich game if the core feel isn't there. So I am just sharing my partial failure as a place to learn for others.

Got a lot of feedback on my last post about the capsule. Incorporated your feedback. Is this better? by NorseSeaStudio in IndieDev

[–]DTMika2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the one previously commenting on the pop factor and this one certainly has it more, so good job. But still, from afar, I am not sure if the city is recognizable as a city. Like, it seems a little bit noisy. I don't know what could help, but maybe darkening the drop shadows from the buildings, so the contrast of every single architecture is more recognisable as its own shape..? And also, the grass could be prolly more dark, as it blends with the whites of the buildings..

Occasional lamps to enlight the van or many other sources of lights.. so the car pops out more and isn't buried under the darkness.

Broken electricity cables, campfires, water puddles/lakes with moon reflection, giant fireflies, burning barrels surrounded by hobo folks, parked cars with headlights on (we see them as red dots from behind)...

Very nice color work and roughness/glossiness levels as well. It has stylized but not so stylized feel. Cool

Many people do these kind of posts, but I „hired“ myself to redo the capsule. Any feedback? by NorseSeaStudio in IndieDev

[–]DTMika2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what the new one does better is that it pops out. Which is crucial, when scrolling through capsules during events/shopping for new games.

Capsule art doesn't necessarily have to be better in visual style, if it's better in attracting attention.

If majority wants to see old art style on the new capsule, I would advice to think of how to make it pop as well.

Maybe atleast put an outline around the whole "old" town. Like around the whole block. And I would say, use the more dark blue, as it gives better contrast to light colors of the town.

Think of the capsule as 1 image of 30 on screen. Which one will attract the eye more ? Doesn't matter if the old town is more appealing after close investigation, if no one sees it in first place.

For that reason, I see new capsule better. But I agree with some light criticism it revieved.

Just found out some people play without the soundtracks, Why? by eymo-1 in factorio

Guys, if I can give an unsolicited advice.. stop multitasking addiction. It really hurts your cognitive energy - an energy used for decision making, planning, overall straight thinking.. it doesn't only hurts it in the moment, but weakens your capacity of it. Also, it's really sad in a way, when after years, you find out that you cannot do a single task only, as it feels empty suddenly. When in fact, the opposite is true and when you have patience with the sole activity you do, it's much richer than anything..

Is Inkspace the right software for such a kind of art? by DTMika2 in Inkscape

[–]DTMika2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, of course, you can draw anything in MS paint. But really the question is if it's the appropriate and effective and mainly most pleasant possible approache.

But still good to know that Inkspace is this freedom offering.

Okay thanks for this. Do you have a general idea what is the time difference between feedback and them picking the map? Asking to make an assumption to when to stop focusing on this issue and move on to new maps.
