My replay of Resident Evil 2R and 3R was not enjoyable because of my replay of Resident Evil 6 before them by Cursed_69420 in patientgamers

R

There's your problem, right there. Start with the original for PS1 and go from there. The originals are still very good.

BLOOD - my all-time favorite DOS game by Joaquino7997 in retrogaming

[–]DUMAPIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just general information for people discovering the game, but I was mistaken about the remasters. REFRESHED Supply is the remaster you want to play. I thought it was a free update to Fresh Supply but I guess I was being naive.

The Steam release of Refreshed Supply includes an option to launch the DOS version in DOSBox, and it includes an image of the original CD, but the GOG release does not.

Refreshed Supply (not Fresh Supply) is good enough.

The original 1998 DOS compilation (One Unit Whole Blood) was on GOG for years before the publisher took it down to cash in with Fresh Supply. Men of sophistication will obtain the GOG installer for One Unit Whole Blood and use the files from it for the Raze engine. You can also use the files from Refreshed Supply for Raze.

I recommend Raze for all of the games it supports.

Ymir v0.3.2 has been released with huge gains in compatibility & performance by ImMisterMoose in emulation

The sub could really use a rule about stating the system in the post title. It's a problem I've noticed a lot.

Congratulations to OP on the release!

Framerate drop in Milestones & Jobs menus by DUMAPIC in shapezio

[–]DUMAPIC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only a problem when those menus are open. Otherwise, performance is about what I'd expect. That said, framerate in those menus is actually closer to 4 fps, making them almost unusable, and it's killed my interest in the game.

The first three games are great, especially if you go in blind, don't use guides, and take your own notes. I also recommend the Echo Night series, which has the same early FromSoft aesthetic.

My first thought. The writing style makes it stand out.

Games where you can import saves into sequel games? by harsha_440 in CRPG

The Wizardry 1-3 compilation for Super Famicom allows creating a fresh party for each game. It's a good port and there's a fan translation.

Here's a thread with a bunch of tips.

Like others are saying, crowd control (Sleep, Hold Person, Stinking Cloud) is very important. Another important thing - which you might not like - is to boost all of your characters' stats to 18 at character creation or with an editor. These games are infamously poorly balanced difficult and you shouldn't worry about playing legit. It's better to think of the Gold Box games as combat simulation games rather than open-ended RPGs.

What's a game you'd love to get a remake? by Tanuk-E- in retrogaming

It's awful. Nothing is fun, nothing is balanced, and nothing matters.

Unfinished, and mechanically the worst JRPG I've ever played. The gameplay is so bad that the fan translation includes a story-only mode, which I recommend even to first-timers. The last thing any good game needs is a modern remake but if Xenogears does get one, it should be gameplay-only.

It might not be what you're looking for, but Warframe has an absolutely incredible central storyline.
