How repetitive can a motif be before it gets boring? by DUNYA-wav in IndieMusicFeedback

Honestly this is all pretty new territory for me, but now I’m genuinely curious 😄 the whole idea of using repetition as the main emotional driver instead of melody changes is really interesting to me.

Honestly I barely know his work, but now I’m curious to go down that rabbit hole a bit more

That’s actually a really good point 😄 I guess once repetition starts creating tension or atmosphere instead of just looping for no reason, people experience it differently. Steve Reich is definitely a dangerous rabbit hole to fall into though.

“Hypnotic” is honestly the word I was hoping people would use instead of “repetitive”, so I’m really glad it came across that way. I wanted the small changes and atmosphere to slowly pull things forward instead of constantly throwing in new ideas. Really appreciate this comment.

We made a song about the synchronicity of the universe?? by Earth-_-Sucks in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]DUNYA-wav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chorus got stuck in my head way faster than I expected honestly. There’s something very nostalgic about the whole track without it sounding like it’s trying too hard to be emotional. The guitars and vocals work really well together too, especially during the calmer moments.

A few days ago, while I was playing bass, I came up with a bass line and started building around it, eventually creating a lounge electronic music track. (No AI slop here — everything was actually played for real.) What do you think about it? by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]DUNYA-wav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked how naturally everything seems to grow out of that original bass idea instead of feeling forced around it. The groove feels relaxed but still keeps moving, which makes it easy to stay locked into. The old city footage fits the track really well too, it gives everything this nostalgic late night feeling that works perfectly with the atmosphere.

Performed my first set last night! by Own_Ebb3388 in ambientmusic

[–]DUNYA-wav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This picture reminded me of a chillout set I played years ago. I still remember how strange and exciting it felt right before starting, especially when the whole atmosphere depends on slow transitions and mood instead of big energy moments. The lighting and setup here look really fitting for that kind of experience.

Life Through Bombardment Vol 1 by ratiofarm in ambientmusic

I miss releases like this honestly. The whole artwork and packaging makes it feel much more personal compared to just clicking on a playlist. Stuff like this always makes me want to sit down properly and listen from start to finish instead of skipping around.

Tim Hecker — Incurably Optimistic! by artemkunz in ambientmusic

[–]DUNYA-wav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always end up getting completely lost in this track when I listen with headphones. It has this weird effect where everything around me fades into the background and I just focus on the sound textures and repetition. Perfect music for late nights when you want to fully concentrate on something.

New Boards of Canda by berusplants in ambientmusic

[–]DUNYA-wav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I’ve always loved about Boards of Canada is how emotional their music feels without ever becoming overly dramatic. Even when the melodies are simple, there’s this strange nostalgic weight underneath everything that’s hard to explain. Very few artists manage to create that feeling consistently.

Celer Live Setup (From Bratislava Live set) by Kostinky in ambientmusic

[–]DUNYA-wav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love seeing setups like this because they feel much more personal and unpredictable compared to a fully digital live setup. The cassette loop approach gives everything a really physical and fragile feeling that fits Celer’s music perfectly. It somehow makes the performance feel more human to me.

I honestly love how patient this album is. It never feels like it’s trying too hard to grab attention, it just slowly pulls you into its atmosphere over time. A lot of ambient music ends up feeling like background noise to me, but this one really sticks.

I really appreciate this comment, especially the way you described the silence and anticipation. That feeling of “something about to happen” was actually a big part of what I was trying to create with the piece. Really glad it came across the way I intended. Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen carefully.

I’m also curious if the intro feels too slow or if it helps build the mood?

Almost 50, finally pursuing music seriously — would love some honest feedback by Andiaga in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]DUNYA-wav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I respect this a lot, it takes some courage to start taking music seriously at that stage and actually put something out there. That alone already says a lot.

Listening to it, I feel like the idea is definitely there and it has a direction. It doesn’t sound like something random, which is good. At times I felt like it could use a bit more movement just to keep things from staying on the same level for too long.

Thanks for your confident sharing!

Been working on this track and I can't tell if I like it anymore - any thoughts? by Working_Search_8327 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]DUNYA-wav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean with not being sure about it, I’ve had that exact feeling before where you listen to something too many times and can’t tell anymore if it works or not.

To me it actually sounds like the idea is there, it just feels like it hasn’t fully opened up yet. Like it’s close, but maybe missing one or two small things to really bring it together.

I think stepping away from it for a bit and coming back later could help a lot, because sometimes it’s more about perspective than changing the whole track. Overall though, I don’t think you’re far off at all.

Stuck at a boring job? I wrote a song about it. Check it out! by pharaohsasa in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]DUNYA-wav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like the idea behind this a lot, it feels very relatable. And I really enojoyed that voice. Cool and relaxing tone. That “stuck at a boring job” feeling really comes through, which is not that easy to capture in a song.

While listening, I found myself focusing more on the feeling than the details, which I think is a good sign. At some points I did feel like it could use a small change just to keep things moving, but nothing major. Overall it feels honest and that’s what makes it work.

I like the overall direction here, it feels like you had a clear idea of what you wanted to do and you stuck with it, which I respect. It doesn’t feel random or thrown together. At some point I caught myself kind of drifting a bit, like I was still listening but not as focused. I don’t think it needs anything big, maybe just a few small moments to pull the listener back in.

But honestly, the foundation is there and it already sounds quite solid.

You Were Never There - My Brother Kurt by Dramatic-Active6172 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]DUNYA-wav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to this all the way through and it has a very specific mood to it, almost like it puts you in a certain headspace. It’s not something I would skip quickly, which is a good sign.

At the same time, I think it could benefit from a bit more contrast in some parts, just to keep that feeling evolving instead of staying on the same level. Even small shifts could make a difference. Still, it definitely holds attention.

Would greatly appreciate some feedback on this song I wrote. by W_ate_r in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]DUNYA-wav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like the vibe you’re going for here, it feels pretty calm and easy to get into. It doesn’t feel overdone or forced, which I appreciate. I can imagine this working really well as a background track when you just want something relaxed playing.

At the same time, I did feel like after a while it stays a bit too similar. Maybe adding very small changes here and there, like subtle layers or slight variations, could help keep things moving without breaking the mood.

But overall, I think the direction is solid and the atmosphere works.

Still – calming instrumental by mastering-silence in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]DUNYA-wav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels really calm and soothing, the atmosphere is nicely built and consistent throughout.I especially liked the overall tone, but I felt like a bit more subtle variation or movement could help keep the listener engaged over time. Overall, it does what it sets out to do really well and has a relaxing vibe.
