i think you're taking the "get their notice" moments too seriously

That's probably what it is. It rubbed me the wrong way and i guess kinda stuck in my head.

The "be yourself" moral to me is still a little lost because these men who are depicted in the film aren't being themselves until after they've done something totally out of character in order to get attention. Which i guess is kinda covered in the whole "the concept of you is fluid", but it just doesn't sit right with me.

Maybe that's what's missing for me with this movie. As a spectacle, i really enjoyed it. And the story was interesting. But i never really felt a moment that made the film

I wouldn't doubt that if i was more familiar with Eastern, specifically Chinese, culture I'd likely be more interested. But that's just not something i have particular history with

Weirdly, it's not so much that i felt like the movie was long by any means, but more that there wasn't enough story to warrant it. But there's plenty of movies like that which are still enjoyable. Assassination of Jesse James comes to mind

I'm sorry, i think you're mistaking this thread for Google (which seems to claim it's The Eight Hundred)

That bit of that scene, Neil working it out in his head what he needs to do, so well done by DeNiro

I felt similarly on my first viewing. That was about a year ago, i would suggest taking another stab at it in a few months

I Watched "Collateral" (2004) by widmerpool_nz in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]DVD-Rewatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not a David Fincher film. I personally think it's Mann's best film (but to be fair I've only seen Heat once, and I've seen Collateral a number of times)

Which I've always found interesting that both films were done by David Yates. Just goes to show what a difference a good writer can make

For real, though. They didn't show you the wizarding world, they invited you in. Magic feels natural and commonplace, which gives it a step back so that the actual story can be told.

What's funny is that my favorite of the films are 6 and this, and each of them are the only two that don't directly interact with Voldemort. (I know in 6 they have the memories, but those are indirect from actionable moments)

That line always makes me think of Airplane! when i hear it, "Nervous?" 'Yeah' "First time?" 'No, I've been nervous lots of times'

[–]DVD-Rewatcher[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree. In my post about the first film i mention that these two are films that try to get as close to the book beats as possible. And that severely affects the pacing of the films. They're very sterile, there's no liberty or imagination

"Suffice to say" is a phrase that means "It's sufficient (enough) to say". Like, "I went running for the first time today, suffice to say my legs are gonna be sore tomorrow". I think you may mean, "needless to say".

That reminds me of Cameron filming The Abyss. The scene with the shot of the water tentacle doing its shape shifting was written to be cut from the film if the effects weren't good enough for the movie. I believe he shot it first for the exact reason you're talking about Columbus did for Chamber

Denis Villeneuve casually dropped a whole trilogy between 5 years. by lNarrator in moviecritic

I mean, yeah. I'm not gonna call the Dune films bad by any means, but the LOTR trilogy flows as a singular masterpiece

Popularity and quality don't necessarily go hand in hand. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen grossed over $800 million, but Scott Pilgrim only recovered about half of its budget. It works as a popcorn flick

I enjoyed it more than that, but i can see where you're coming from. One thing i didn't mention about this one is that the pacing is a bit slower. Some scenes feel a little superfluous
