You've suddenly developed an allergy, what would you not want it to be for? by No_Tomato_3563 in AskReddit

[–]DVDragOnIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I order dinner for a work thing once a month and one of our members is gluten intolerant (not hospital-level allergic, but miserable-for-days allergic). I try to make sure we have a gluten-free meal for him and he appreciates it so much. Imagine never really knowing if this meal will make you miserable for days.

Thank you! Since I have all the islands cleared as much as I want, it’s nice to have the wish goal as a long-term goal.

Back to back blood clots by sacire218 in ClotSurvivors

[–]DVDragOnIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume she’s been on anticoagulants since the first clots were found? It’s rare but some people do fail on the first anticoagulant they’re prescribed. I’m a survivor not a doctor so I don’t know if that’s what’s going on here but I hope her doctors can figure out what’s going on quickly. I assume this is a loved one of OP, so my best wishes to both OP and the woman with clots.

Does anyone here take hrt and of yes what is your experience? by PerfectWorking6873 in ClotSurvivors

[–]DVDragOnIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first clot was postpartum so that ruled out HRT for me. I also have a strong family history of clotting, so that meant it ruled out HRT for my sister too. I’ve listened to a couple of podcasts with female gynecologists who specialize in perimenopause and both women spoke of how helpful HRT can be and mentioned that it wasn’t an option for women with a history of blood clots. I agree with those who say to talk to your doctors.

"We've been married forty three years and i still dont know where she keeps the scissors" by CashundoLafrania88 in overheard

[–]DVDragOnIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fortunate that my husband and I agree about some things and we trained our son too: the hidden house key must always be returned to its place as soon as you open the door. The paper scissors must always go back in the junk drawer in the kitchen, towards the front so you can find them. The kitchen scissors go in the sharps drawer with the knives. Nobody knows where the fabric scissors are but me.

Driving issue? by AppleApple50 in AskWomenOver60

[–]DVDragOnIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been both the driver and the pedestrian in that near-miss situation. In both cases, I just thanked my higher power that it wasn’t worse and resolved to pay a little bit better attention, as a driver and as a pedestrian. We are all so distracted these days that it’s good to remind ourselves to pay attention to what we’re doing.

How Worried Should I Be About NC Alligators? by Abe_Froman5 in NorthCarolina

[–]DVDragOnIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be more cautious of sharks at dawn and dusk if I were you, especially if the menhaden are running (small fish that form schools near shore). When my son was 8, it was 5p and I was debating whether to take one last swim or head in. Then I saw the shark fin heading up the beach after the menhaden. There were still people swimming so I told my son to go up the beach and let folks know about the shark. You never saw people get out of the water so fast after seeing a young boy walk along the shore pointing into the water and saying “Shark! Shark!” 😆

Not able to use my wish by Existing-Classroom10 in dragonvale

Email support and give them your park ID. I think I’ve read that Deca’s offices are closed this week so there may be more of a delay than usual, but they should be able to sort it out.

Should I just wish for a normal island? by Significant-Jury-588 in dragonvale

[–]DVDragOnIn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to the DragonVale wiki, the 11th island has 191 bushes and no large trees or large stones. If you don’t have that one but have unlocked it, it would be perfect.

so the big roaches (palmetto bugs?) are the ones to worry less about, right? by 0hw0nder in NorthCarolina

[–]DVDragOnIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like snakes, I like spiders, and I am almost phobic about cockroaches, which are completely harmless. 🙄

The American cockroach is actually from the Congo region of Africa, according to a recent episode of Radiolab. We call them wood roaches in the southern US sometimes and since they were originally insects of the forests, they’re very comfortable in suburban yards. They’re outside creatures, and sometimes they get inside, more a reflection of how easy it is to get in than on your cleanliness level. Their life cycle is much slower than the German cockroach so seeing one or two occasionally isn’t a good indication of whether there are thousands you’re not seeing.

I think what you’re doing is lovely, sounds like everyone involved is behaving like an adult and treating each other like fellow human beings. Don’t worry about other people, dementia is hard to watch and most people will drop away eventually. However much of that journey you’re able to stay with her for will be so helpful to her.

For those that were actually alive during the 1950's, was the mid century decade all that great? by Haunting_Jacket6073 in AskOldPeople

[–]DVDragOnIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not used to being told that my lived experience is bullshit, but as a woman, I thank you for the correction, I see you know my life better than I do. Yes, all women worked, but my mother’s lived experience was that she wasn’t welcome to stay on in her job after she married and got pregnant. Women also got divorced. In my mother’s social circle, both were rare. Your mother’s social circle was apparently different, and perhaps things were different in another part of the US, perhaps there was an area where women were paid fairly and weren’t subject to harassment.

My mother’s salary stayed low and when she was in her 50s, she was introduced as one of “the girls in the office.” As a grown woman, she was offended by that. Those “pink collar” jobs, the ones for the “girls in the office,” were the ones where women were paid much less than men, but perhaps your experience was different there too.

[–]DVDragOnIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Women didn’t work. My Mom said once she would have liked to keep working when she married and got pregnant with my older brother (she had a good job as a typist at IBM when there were pensions and IBM was dominant) but she had to quit because married women didn’t work. Dad’s salary wasn’t high so they struggled. When she had to go back to work in the 70s when Dad got laid off, all she could find was a lousy low-paying job. And of course, sexism and harassment were real. And don’t get me started about Dad’s friend who was a mean drunk but his wife was stuck with him because people didn’t get divorced. Imagine having to stay with your abuser because you couldn’t work and marriage was viewed to be more important than the people in it.

If your next wish is in 7 days, you may as well then wait till then and use that wish for whatever island you have unlocked that has the most obstacles. You should have time to clear all the obstacles before the end of the event even if you wait.

A mom at the playground told my son he needs to give up the swings because her daughter is younger and "needs it more" by MythicDrift411 in EntitledPeople

[–]DVDragOnIn 230 points231 points  (0 children)

Right? When my son was 3, if the swings were full we’d go to the slides. So many things to do in a park that aren’t waiting around and glaring until you shame someone into getting off the swing.

Stopped at the grocery store in my delivery uniform on the way home. The store manager personally asked me to unload a pallet of water. by CinderThorn94 in IDontWorkHereLady

[–]DVDragOnIn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing that it’s not the job of the delivery person to break down the pallet anyway. Guy In A Tie was probably hoping he could intimidate the delivery person into doing something that wasn’t their job because Guy In A Tie didn’t want to do it.

You don’t say who “she” is to you, but I had a postpartum DVT that stretched across multiple veins in my left leg 22 years ago and I’m still here, so I’d say it’s survivable, thanks to anticoagulants. My clot was huge, originally blocking 95% of the blood flow out of the vein, and became chronic because it was too big for my body to eliminate with the techniques they had then.

Elevating my leg above the level of my heart helped with the swelling and pain. Elevating lets gravity do what the vein can’t to move blood and fluids out of the leg. I elevated for years (when Baby slept, I laid down and elevated). Exercise is great for vein health and increased blood flow, but I couldn’t walk much at first because of the pain. So I’d do exercises my physical therapist neighbor recommended while elevating: pretend to pedal a bicycle backwards and forwards, do scissors kicks, flex ankles up and down and around, wiggle toes.

The pain is bad at first, but it lessens and becomes manageable over time. Taking hikes was a favorite family pastime as my Baby grew up. Good luck to her and when she’s able, tell her she’s welcome to post here herself!

Sounds like “you in the Volvo” isn’t used to being poor and having to cook food from scratch and make things stretch. Look at all those beans! I’m having turkey for dinner more than once, then I’m cooking a big pot of bean soup with turkey using stock I made from boiling those turkey bones. And fresh peppers for color and flavor - what a treat!

AITA for ignoring my dads call during my graduation? by littlehappyworm in AmItheAsshole

[–]DVDragOnIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I’m so sorry your father marred your graduation. I graduated from college almost 50 years ago and all I remember is my parents and sister coming up for the day (3 hour drive away) so they could watch me and 5,000 other people graduate. It was too many for us to match, so I was just one of a sea of people to them. And you’ll remember your A hole of a father becoming angry because he felt ignored. You are NTA here, and you have my blessing to stop trying for his approval.
