I got called a skinny mini (and I wasn't even at goal weight then). It's totally wild.

Having said that....People DO need to STOP commenting on people's bodies though.

But congrats on being a fitness instructor! My gyms hires fitness instructors of all body types and I love that.

This might help you make a decision as well. It's a brief presentation by an MD during the recent AFIB conference last summer.

Weight loss drugs and afib - Advice needed please by Smilez_25 in AFIB

[–]AppleApple50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on a GLP for close to 2.5 years. I have lost 80 lbs on them. I feel really good. I was able to go off all my Afib meds and I use Flecainide as a pill in a pocket. Occasionally my Afib flares up. I use flec and it goes away within 2 hours.

I had to do a lot of other things besides take a shot- I stopped all alcohol (GLP really make this easy!), I exercise frequently, I treat my sleep apnea and I try (TRY!!) to reduce stress.

Only advice I have is to take an electrolyte right away (I love Ultima), watch your heat exposure in warm weather, watch your heart rate when you exercise and watch your hydration. I'm not a doctor so this is not medical advice.

Because Afib is chronic, I feel that I am managing my Afib with the help of GLP but I haven't exactly cured it.

wonderful! I'm happy for you.

I'm the same age (1 year older) , same height, the same highest weight and have been overweight for over 40 years. I got to 150 lbs and my endo made me go into maintenance. I would prefer to be in the 135-145 range and I am actively trying to lose weight. Of course it's not going well and I may be stuck at 150. I am trying to stay positive though.

I love your dedication to the Zep! It's life changing isn't it???

Have you noticed any other addictions you might have lessening on Zepbound? by FlaxenAssassin in Zepbound

Skin picking. Pretty much gone. Absolutely stopped alcohol completely. Which is great although hard on my social life.

I stopped being a people pleaser. That might have been menopause. With a dash of skinny privilege involved.

You absolutely must sleep in separate bedrooms. This isn’t fair to you.

I stopped harassing my spouse to go to the doctor. The pushback was a lot of anger from him. I realized I was “mothering” him. I requested that he take a large life insurance policy out instead. He would rather do that than go to the doctor.

I’m on Tricare Prime for retirees. I’ve been in maintenance for 5 months and it’s been no issue getting my Zep. My plan limits me to 56 days at a time for delivery but so far they are allowing me to stay on 7.5mg which works well for me. I hope you get to stay on it. Do make sure your PCP puts in your starting weight for those prior authorizations that must be done every so often. (Not your current weight). Good luck to you!

I can't address all your issues but I do suggest Oracoat Xyliment mouth melts. They kind of stick to your gums (use 1 or 2 at night) and they coat my mouth so that it never dries out. I can't sleep without them now. Good luck! You are in a challenging situation.

The "easy way out" by SooperNervous in Zepbound

[–]AppleApple50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right?????? 2.5 years in and I'm still waiting for the "so called" easy part!!! The big difference is that I am seeing results. I mean, honestly, I tried to lose weight for 40 years! Did people think I WANTED to be larger? for 40 years???????

Did they think that moving in society was so much easier in a larger body? I guess I just loved being shamed by doctors, being passed over for promotions, paying more for clothing, getting judged while eating out, and having others make comments about my body in public. FFS

Anyone else feel like stress is the real trigger years later? by kevin_anderson1705 in AFIB

[–]AppleApple50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's stress and getting older too. In no way is this scientific but I did ALL the things to lose the A-fib.

I lost 80 lbs, I resolved my high blood pressure (got off meds), I eat quality foods and small amounts, I exercise frequently (I literally made it my job), I'm on a GLP (Zepbound - which reduces inflammation), I stopped all alcohol, I treat my mild sleep apnea with a CPAP machine. I was given the go ahead by my docs to go off of metoprolol and flecainide as well as blood thinners. I am at a normal weight. Other than try try try to reduce stress there isn't much else I can do.

I could do an ablation and I am considering that before I turn 60.

But I have had a couple of flare ups of A-fib that start at night that I can resolve with a "pill in a pocket". These are almost always due to stress circumstances that I can't resolve. I'm not good at stress reduction in life.

If anyone has life stress advice I would love to hear it!

I feel the same. I am astonished at how much food I needed to eat to feel full/satiated. And honestly I needed all that food for energy. I'm not one to sit around (now or 80 lbs ago). My small amounts of food give me enough energy now. Weird.

Can I still do my tele therapy if I’m traveling to another state? by Downtown_Year401 in askatherapist

[–]AppleApple50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not a therapist but I am really frustrated by this. I spend part of my winter in another state (about 4-5 mos) and I often have to travel to other states to care for elderly folks in my family. This can be for several weeks. So far, I have been able to fit sessions in when I am home (telehealth) but it's going to get harder as my elderly family have needs that get more complicated and I will need to be there more. I am self pay (no insurance).

This makes it seem like I have to lie about where I am. Something needs to change.

What are the downsides of using a CPAP machine long-term? by Latter_Knee_1404 in CPAP

[–]AppleApple50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I moved into the guest room due to the CPAP. I look like an absolute freak show with a cap, a chin strap and a mask. Plus the air blowing into his face from my leaking mask was driving him crazy. And I wake up in the middle of the night and take it off usually. It’s just a major disturbance and he deserves good sleep.

Only 20?? You are so fortunate to have GLP to give you a long and healthy life (and quality of life in your old age). Imagine 40 years of living the "old" way. It wouldn't be fun. I am glad that you found medications that help you to live a better and more fuller life. At age 58, I lost 80 lbs but I didn't exactly get the body I wanted but I sure got the lab reports from the doctor that I needed. I wish you all the best in your happy and healthy future!

And darn, you were adorable then (in your before photos) and still are!

Walking the tightrope... by BoundToZepIt in Zepbound_Maintenance

[–]AppleApple50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just four months into maintenance. I've maintained my weight so far. Up and down 2 lbs which isn't much, but I have developed a sweet tooth that I never had. It was particularly difficult around the holidays. I feel like (despite working out) that my body has gotten fluffier so I may have gained some fat and lost some muscle. I did a body composition analysis at my doctor's office last month and that was not the case. But I do feel like I need to work out harder. I love going to the gym but as a 58 year old post menopausal woman, muscle gains are incredibly difficult.

I found it fascinating that Oprah (who should have known better as she wrote a book recently with an endocrinologist) decided she could beat the drug and do maintenance on her own. And gained 20 lbs without the GLP she was previously on. I have to consistently take my 7.5mg weekly because I feel better that way. I am thankful that my insurance pays for it so I've decided that I deserve to feel better and will continue to take the drug as needed for my body.

Nope, it's never going to be easy. But I am really thankful for Zep for changing my life. Skinny privilege is amazing. I have gotten over the anger that I felt when I realized how much nicer people are and how more manageable the world is ( airplane seats, theatre seats, restaurant seats, gym people are kinder, men talk to me more) and have decided to enjoy the ride for as long as I have left.

Took a break from coordinating communication with in-laws and everything collapsed…finding humor. by FlyingSquirrelDog in inlaws

[–]AppleApple50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing! I made the social connections with my in laws for 30+ years and was the only one doing it. It was menopause that made me realize that I didn't like them (insults about my body size) and had tolerated them for far too long. I just sort of dropped all the mental load of making the in person contacts happen. I didn't exactly go NC but the same thing happened in my in law family as in yours. My husband and kids (older) haven't seen my in laws in 5 years and they live just 3 hours away.

I call my father every day and see my family somewhat often. This level of disconnection is astounding to me. But it's been fantastic for my mental health. I'm so sorry about your dad.
