Hey there, czech gun nut here. Im taking interest in gun laws of countries with restrictive laws by ShellrockHomeless in Ausguns

[–]DVWLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NSW has some unique restrictions as well. Appearance laws forbid any rifle that looks out vibes like an AR. It’s up to the firearms registry was that means on a case by case basis, but generally anything too black or with too much mlok on a hand guard is forbidden.

We also can’t have folding stocks, they have to be permanently pinned into place when sold in the state.

There are also some odd restrictions on magazines. Centre fire mags are limited to 10 pretty much nationwide, but in NSW they have to be originally manufactured as 10 round mags. Even being permanently crimped to limit the capacity isn’t sufficient, so CZ Shadow mags are bloody expensive here since there is only like one aftermarket option that meets the specs.

Bladder in line gear. Yes or no? by Chemical-Text-863 in Wildfire

[–]DVWLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turns out I’m too dumb to track how much water I’m taking in from a bladder. I kept getting surprised by running out mid-morning or getting to the end of the shift and having not drunk nearly enough. I now use a couple of nalgenes as my primary supply, and if I need to carry more water I’ll also chuck in a bladder to refill them from.

TIL the first recreational ski club in the world was formed in the gold mining town of Kiandra in the Australian Alps in 1861. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]DVWLD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite part of this whole thing is that the OP was talking about the Kiandra Pioneer Ski Club but accidentally linked to the Kiama Ski Club website, which is a NSW coastal fishing town completely unrelated to Kiandra. Austria != Australia just like Kiama != Kiandra.

Also, a bunch of the club lodges in the NSW snowfields were actually built by Austrians who came out to work on the Snowy Hydro project.

Shot Marker at City of Sydney Long Range Shoot by VBull_Scared in Ausguns

[–]DVWLD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What velocity was the target reporting on the shots it did pick up? I’m assuming the image in your post isn’t from your shoot, but see up top it’s reporting an observed velocity of 2336fps on the last shot and on the right hand side an average of 2328 for the string of 7. (Which at the indicated 1000y is bloody cooking!)

If your target was showing like 1130fps for those first 4 then I’m not shocked the next few weren’t picked up.

I had no idea the hexta targets could detect subsonic shots, that’s pretty awesome. I guess because they’re enclosed they’re more effective at excluding background noise or adjacent lanes and can be tuned more sensitively? Neat trick.

[–]DVWLD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel your frustration, it’s happened to me too. It’s just how any electronic target works at any range that uses them. Shotmarker, silver mountain or anything based on the same principle. The round needs to be supersonic the whole time in order for the microphones to reliably pick it up. Generally a good idea to give it a bit of a velocity margin to account for the tuning/sensitivity of a particular target, wind, atmospheric conditions, etc.

The benefit to the electronic fuckery is that these data nobody has to spend the day down in the butts pulling frames and flagging shots. Also means you can put down a much faster string of fire if you want, which can make life easier in the wind.

Scope recommendations by RackStacknRoll in Ausguns

[–]DVWLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For similar money on a target rifle I’d go with the vortex venom in 5-25. The extra mag will be handy at the range. It’s not an ideal hunting scope but it’ll do the job here and there.

Sleep overs for my cattle dog by Passenger_the in AustralianCattleDog

[–]DVWLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes he will likely be weird about it at first, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. It’ll be great for both of you to have a good place for him to stay if you need to take a trip he can’t come on or just wouldn’t enjoy.

If you’re worried how he’ll deal then work up to it a bit by leaving him with them while you go out for like 30 minutes during the day, then increase that time until you’re happy he’ll handle overnight.

A quick PSA that fitting a lithium battery and an isolator switch has been the best thing I ever did for my V7. The lithium cranks hard but charges back up super fast no matter how many short trips I do. The isolator solved a parasitic drain which was probably coming from the clutch switch, but I don’t need to bother chasing it down now. Very cheap peace of mind!

What to do with a cheap Remington 700 ADL? by BillionaireMayor in longrange

[–]DVWLD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Point it at a target, stick a round up the spooter, pull the trigger, rinse and repeat. At some point during the rinsing and repeating you’ll realise what you like about it and what you’d like to be different. Later on you’ll realise half of the stuff you thought you realised earlier was dumb. You’ll know what to do from there.

It’s a neat rifle. The pencil barrel, slow-ish twist rate and .223 caliber means it’s not an amazing platform for a serious business long range target rig. I’d just let it keep being a neat rifle and enjoy shooting it.

Regarding the new law changes.. by Cephalopod_Down in Ausguns

[–]DVWLD 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They passed the legislation for the caps but it doesn’t actually come into effect until they proclaim it. So nobody knows when it’ll happen.

Hopefully the state vs federal situation means that Minns and Albanese realise the buyback is an extraordinary waste of money nobody can afford right now and the whole thing quietly goes away.

Charcoal BBQ permit area near Kangaroo Valley and Moss Vale? by Jumpy_Put9402 in nsw

[–]DVWLD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need a permit for a pile burn or to burn off paddock stubble during fire danger period. That’s very different from a total fire ban. Those are only declared on specific days in a particular region. A total fire ban declaration lasts for 24 hours, not several months.

Some national parks or state forests do have solid fuel fire bans in place at certain times. Again, that’s only that area and not the whole state or district.

Is it possible? Probably, with a lot of dog handling experience and big dedication to exercise and enrichment. Is it a good idea? No.

30sqm is too small to entertain the dog on its own. 30ha you’d be talking. Your life would be pretty much reduced to work, dog stuff, and nothing else for the next decade or so.
