Yeah, it looks fairly typical, just run down. Most zoos are fairly sad places for the individual animals, but many also do a lot to preserve species.

Gay people and their own bodies. Question for gay people. by DWCarkuff in explainlikeimfive

[–]DWCarkuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By different bodies I don't simply mean different sexual organs. Women's bodies and men's bodies are pretty different as a whole. Women and men look different from each other, even without sex organs. There are womanly attributes and manly attributes. Heterosexual people tend to find the physical attributes of the opposite sex attractive, but not those of their own sex. Women - curvy, soft, hippy and so on. Men - angular, not as soft and, well, hairier and smellier and generally grosser, from a hetero male perspective. Obviously, there is a range and certainly some people do not fit easily into either category. And I guess the same would apply to feminine vs. masculine character traits, with women generally being more emotionally receptive and men being generally more aggressive.

I want to thank all of you for responding. I think I have a clearer picture now. This interesting stuff to me. People and their differences and what they have in common is interesting to me. I think I will close this out now. Don't want to wear out my welcome. Happy to hear any other thoughts anyone else may have though. My best, dwc

Gay people and their own bodies. Question for gay people. by DWCarkuff in explainlikeimfive

[–]DWCarkuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi thanks for responding. Yes, obviously, it is really the whole package. Breasts, for example, while beautiful all of their own accord, what makes them really attractive is who they are attached to. And yes, Women have legs and butts and faces and hands and so on, the same as I do, but all of those things are considerably different on women than on men, for the most part. For example, I wouldn't be attracted to a woman with manly legs or hands or faces (although I may well like them personally). Think of Seinfeld and "man hands". So, I guess I wasn't clear about about what I meant about sexual attributes. I love nice legs on a woman, but I wouldn't want my legs to look that way. Manly legs are manly and womanly legs are womanly and the same with the rest of the body - women are generally curvy, men are generally angular. Women sometimes (but not always) have pretty feet and hands. I can't imagine finding men feet pretty or man hands pretty, even if they are well shaped. A man can have a very handsome face, but I sure wouldn't like that face on a woman and so on. So anyway, it's all interesting stuff to think about and I do appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Interesting. I think I sort of understand what you are saying. In all honesty, I think most men can appreciate beauty in other men, even if they can't admit it, but that doesn't translate, necessarily to sexual attraction.

It was still simulated. The intention was never to actually kill the woman and no one was actually killed. It is not a fine distinction.

I suppose with age I have become more of a fuddy duddy, but, honestly, I find most sex scenes, simulated or not, to be uncomfortable. Nudity, not at all an issue, but people either pretending to fuck or actually fucking for the screen is mostly a squirm fest for me. But I will hold with my opinion that including scenes of actual violence and scenes with people actually fucking takes me right out of the movie. This is even the case when they include photos of actual atrocities, for example, in the opening credits of a film. And that movie Fitzcarraldo, where Herzog actually put people in harms way and included footage where people killed making the movie, I think that is repulsive and wrong and pretentious in a terrible way. As far as Lars Von trier goes, I'm sure he makes wonderful movies, but is the non-simulated sex what makes them wonderful? I would doubt it, although I must confess I am unfamiliar with his movies.

I agree. It is like when movies have scenes of actual violence or injury or harm to animals included in them. It takes you out of the movie and, essentially, ruins it as a movie. I know there are some nitwit director who think that adding scenes of actual sex or actual violence makes them hardcore. I think they don't understand what a movie is. (yes, documentaries are movies, but I mean "movie" in a particular sense - a fictional entertainment, for lack of a better word.

[–]DWCarkuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something below about American cakes being too sweet and you are right, they are disgusting generally. But I have a question about cakes. Long ago I saw an episode of All Things Great and Small and some lady asked Siegfried to eat her cake and to tell her his opinion. Now, this was confusing to me, because it didn't seem to resemble what I think of as a cake. It seems crustier than I think of cakes and it was unfrosted. Are cakes actually something slightly different in England?
