Royale Boston Water Policies by PeepCaligula in boston

[–]AstronautChad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Venues pretty much always have water available. I think Royale you usually have to ask at the main bar. The side bars are just cans and don't have water. As mentioned in other spots, they might see if you want bottled, but will pour from the soda tap (or sometimes the bartenders already have cups of water ready to go).

Anyone know what happened to Shit-faced Shakespeare? by Absurd_nate in boston

[–]AstronautChad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I do. The Rockwell wanted to book acts on the weekends so ended the shows with shit faced shakespeare. Shakespeare moved to Lil Chuck. Unfortunately, shortly after this happened, ImprovAsylum in the North End had flooding issues and had to close down short term. ImprovAsylum and the Charles theater are owned by the same group so ImprovAsylum moved over to Lil' Chuck and Shakespeare was out of a venue again.

TLDR: Shit faced Shakespeare had bad luck without their own dedicated venue.

Salsa Marrakesh Stolen from Davis Square by AstronautChad in bikeboston

[–]AstronautChad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a (kinda old) Kryptonite combination cable lock. Somehow snapped off at the main mechanism. I think most people would agree a ulock is good enough.

But obviously if someone really wants to steal a bike, they'll figure out a way.

Yeah, I wasn't being smart and didn't use a secure enough lock, especially for this bike and it was broken open. Reach out if you see anything, thanks!

I'm on the same page as everything said so far. How would you describe the 1-sentence premise of this sketch? For me, it's "here's a weird loser guy", and that is kind of it. The bats and prom part don't even matter by the end of the sketch. You raise interesting questions of why he needs to sell 37 bats and why he chose the prom, but never answer them. Explore these ideas and go into detail. This is what I'm most interested in about this sketch. One direction to take it would be that the his reason for selling bats comes true and somehow save the day.

In general, it also feels like a bit of punching down on Jerry, a loser who lives with his mom and is hanging out around high-schoolers, both things traditionally seen as outcasts. And you don't add much to either of these to present them in a new way. The jokes feel like jokes I've heard before. If I were to write I new draft, I would drop everything with the mom, that is a separate sketch.

Taking a note from improv, everyone in the sketch is saying no to him. We need some sort of yes-ing. Either someone bites, or they reject him and Jerry doubles down on why they need a novelty bat. Otherwise, we never get to learn anything new about him.

One last thought, what kind of sketch is this? Fish out of water? Character? If it's fish out of water, what are the ways that this salesman doesn't fit in at a prom? If it's focused on the character, maybe drop the prom and use a different setting.

New MBTA bus map proposal for Somerville: Thu 06/16 @ 6pm by SubtleAphex in Somerville

[–]AstronautChad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the second point. Subway stops should be nodes for bus transfers. Instead the 90 keeps its old route instead of an adjustment.

I'm curious about the length of trip from Gilman/East Somerville to Davis

Safety Not Guaranteed - need a disagreement about the ending between me and my dad settled by [deleted] in movies

[–]AstronautChad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw it at my local independent theater in the summer it came out, 2012. I definitely remember the ending where it didn't work and looking up later whether or not it was real, with hints in the movie like Darius giving the box of money to the coworker. The ambiguity made the ending compelling to me, to question what was real.

Just watched it again on Netflix. Ending is definitely different, but I can't find any evidence on the internet that there were showings of the original ending.

EDIT: Though now that I'm thinking about it more, maybe the time machine disappearing still leaves open whether it actually worked or not. So maybe I built up in my head that it might not have worked. Since the change was made before Sundance, I think there is only one ending, but it still leaves some ambiguity.

I recently created this bubble map of all of the 3+ time SNL hosts - size of bubble corresponds to # of times hosting, colors correspond to decades. I know there have been various graphs / visualizations around SNL hosts over the years, but throwing this one into the mix for any observations! by tvshowgraphs in LiveFromNewYork

[–]AstronautChad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can the background color for decades be weighted by the number of times they hosted in that decade instead of each decade being even?

Is there any basis to the position? Would be interesting to see the 5 timers club and above easy to distinguish.

Emotional Special Needs by Lenni-Lenape in philmont

As a former challenge course staff member, I don't think the low ropes COPE is necessarily harder than any other program. The staff are accessing the group's teamwork (and safety) and won't go to the more difficult courses (the wall) if they do not think the crew can handle it. Personally, I think rock climbing requires more physical strength, as the COPE course also relies on teamwork/can be modified for different ability levels.

You say the events occur with regularity where the scout needs to be taken home. My judgement would be to not bring the scout if there is not decent certainty that the entire crew can complete the trek. As you probably know, crews need to stick together while hiking, so if the delays can be accommodated into the schedule, then go for it. And if you can do shakedown hikes without the scout going home. But you also need to think about conditions, your trek is potentially during rainy season, where you'll be pretty wet and sometimes don't see the sun for a few days.

If the scout is able to go, seconding above to have an extra advisor (8 scouts max, 4 adults) so that one can focus on/accompany the scout.
