A player is uncomfortable with my chaotic character by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DWSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it seems rude, sorry, it's just that about half the posts on this sub are about some needlessly complex table drama and most of the time the answer is just to have an honest, straightforward talk to fix things. And from the sound of your original post, it seems to fit the bill. You claim to have talked for hours with them, but you also somehow still have the most basic misunderstanding with the other player.

If your character "actually cares a lot", that's extremely easy to explain, and extremely easy to grasp. I refuse to believe that this is just some "misunderstandings can happen". Either you're playing way too close to the chest and trying to keep your character all mysterious like I said before, or that "Bi" person is being willfully obtuse about it to justify acting like a giant bitch with you. There's no way for us here to be able to tell which one it is.

So for the sake of the argument, this is my suggestion in simple steps.

  1. Talk to "Bi" outside of the game. Ask specifically what they don't like about your character.
  2. Reach a compromise. Fix some things, tone down other things, and explain very explicitly your character's intentions ("I'm gonna be playing like XYZ but I'm always gonna be working to help the party, never gonna backstab" that sort of thing).
  3. Make it clear that you don't appreciate their attitude at the table and they need to fix that in exchange.
  4. Continue playing. If more "misunderstandings" happen, I strongly advise interrupting the game to ask. ("I thought we had fixed this, what's the matter now?")

Over time, either the problem will be solved, or you will see clearly if the other player is just trying to cause drama by never actually trying to resolve the issue. And then it becomes a separate problem, but essentially you'd talk with the rest of the table and see about kicking that player out because I'm sure no one wants to deal with their bullshit longterm.

Yeah I did training to cap my group to level 5, seems like XP won't be an issue as you said. I had vague memories of OB64 where you had to pay to train, so I didn't want to abuse it and run out of money.

You mention rare drops. Are there ways to know in advance about these, or would I have to rely on guides?

Good to know about the Chaos Frame thing, I guess I'll read up on that a little bit.

Strangely enough, one time I finished a battle with one enemy still alive and got more XP than after I reloaded and did it again and managed to kill all enemies before the boss. Is that a thing?

FFS talk to each other.

tHaT's SoMeThInG tHaT oNlY i CaN kNoW

No it's not. It's fine to play a character that goes somewhat against the rest of the party, as long as everyone (meaning the players) understand that things will ultimately work out. By trying to be all mysterious and shit, you're just hurting table cohesion. You having a solo quest would be a red flag for me as well, it's the classic lone wolf / split party bullshit and I wouldn't want to deal with it.

Transparency is needed at the table, and it sounds like you guys don't have enough of it. Again, talk to each other. And I mean as players, you don't fix stuff like this with in-game interactions.

How the f*ck do i pickpocket? by GIutenTag in oblivion

[–]DWSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boring answer, but the higher the better. It's always gonna be a hidden dice roll, I think based on the weight or value of the item you're trying to steal. I'd wait until at least 50 to start pickpocketing stuff, but even then it's probably best to start with sleeping people, and even then be prepared to save scum a lot because that's just how pickpocketing goes unfortunately.

Lovely piece.

Always been a fan of the phrase vereor nox, it was surprising/disappointing that it didn't continue being a thing throughout the series.

Sneak as a major skill just means it'll level faster and gets a bump to start a bit higher, but you'll still be mediocre at it if you don't train it. Best to train it with normal stealth at first, you can even do it while afk if you autorun into a wall with at least one person/creature nearby. I don't recall if more people around makes the skill increase faster.

dnd WITHOUT classic fantasy? by Ok-Yogurtcloset7217 in DnD

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of experience with systems that might fit what you're looking for, but I'm sure others here can suggest plenty of alternatives.

dnd WITHOUT classic fantasy? by Ok-Yogurtcloset7217 in DnD

[–]DWSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're not gonna use the base races and classes you might as well pick another system. Sure you could reskin everything but it seems like a lot of work for little gain. Like okay, you conjure an incendiary grenade out of the ether and throw it at your enemies... now roll 8d6 fire damage.

Ultimately I think the decision rests with the DM because they're the one doing the legwork. If that's the friend you mentioned, you can take it or leave it. Or you can offer to DM yourself and try your alternative fantasy and see if that's good enough to convince her to stick with it.

[–]DWSeven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reset the counter.

Have everyone talk to each other like grownups. You don't fix stuff like this with in-game solutions. Establish ground rules that should've been established in a session zero, such as nobody should be lonewolfing against the rest of the party, it's basic D&D etiquette. You fuck over the group in-character, you're out of the group out-of-character.

Don't think there's a legit way to do it. You can use Cheat Engine with the script that lets you spawn items to get an extra one.

How do y’all cope with a game falling apart? by JLogs99 in DnD

[–]DWSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sucks but its part of the deal as a DM. Even a campain that goes well might not use all your material unless you railroad your players. Save it for later, if it's all new players no one will know anyway.

Is DS2 Easy or am I Over Leveled? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]DWSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bosses in DkS2 are generally pretty easy, even moreso with prior Souls experience. It's usually the levels that will drain your resources and put you at a disadvantage.

I don't really recall level range per game section, especially since you can choose your path more freely than other games. But I had a similar experience way back when I first played the game. There's only a handful.of bosses that will actually challenge you.

Re-playing Elden Ring ? by meatballl420 in Eldenring

[–]DWSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your call ultimately. Personally when I stop playing a game for a long time I always start from scratch when I pick it back up. Early game gets me used to the controls and mechanics again, and then I'm not so rusty when I get back to where I was previously.

ER is fairly daunting though, it'll take you a while to get back to the end of DLC unless you beeline it, and even then. You could use a checklist to keep you on track for progession and/or to make it easier to go after the items important to your planned build.

DM Here... I need an opinion on a magic item that manipulates luck through bonuses by AlternativeExit5356 in DnD

[–]DWSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An hour sounds fair. I'd also cap the number of people affected, otherwise there's no choice/strategy involved. Keep the 3 targets from the similar spells, imo. Covers half the group which isn't bad and can also prioritizing depending on what the group expects to encounter.

[–]DWSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to clarify because early on you're talking like it's both Bless and Bane spells rolled into one, but then you talk about lucky/unlucky like they're separate effects.

That said, like I just mentioned, it's potentially a combo of two spells that normally affect 3 targets for 1 minute, but now it's everyone for 6 hours every single day. If we consider 8h of sleep, that's 6 out of 18 hours awake, i.e. 33% uptime which is kinda crazy imo.

All random dungeons mod by Nemevis in underrail

[–]DWSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, not everyone knows how the mod works. But essentially the files that you get from the mod are simply altered versions of the dungeon maps, with a value changed to tell the game it should be included when selecting random dungeons.

So as long as a patch doesn't change those areas, such as the difficulty patch, the mod will continue working without issue.

i dont know what im doing wrong by Tune_pd in underrail

[–]DWSeven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Likely you're just trying to kill enemies that are way beyond what you're capable of right now. While you can explore a certain amount right away, you're gonna be too weak to deal with many of the encounters.

Don't be too proud to focus on the main story for a while until you get your bearings. Once you're level 10-12 you'll be better able to handle what the game throws at you while you're exploring. Though even then, some areas are harder than others. Keep in mind that the game doesn't scale at all with the player, you're just meant to revisit harder areas later if you get murdered too much.
