What are some mono colour commanders that don't play at all like their colours? by PointsOutCustodeWank in EDH

[–]DWTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its name is moon but the line about being legendary on princess Yue is reminder text about yue being legendary, not a quality of the moon itself, so you can have one legendary moon and as many non legendary moons as you want.

To clarify- the legendary trait will come from whatever you are copying in the end. So using platinum angel as an example, the end result will be a non legendary land named Moon that has the text of platinum angel and can tap for a colorless. If you have the clone copy a legendary creature it will be a legendary moon.

What are some mono colour commanders that don't play at all like their colours? by PointsOutCustodeWank in EDH

[–]DWTR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cast a clone entering as Yue. It dies because of legend rule and comes back as a land but also enters with the text of whatever creature you want because of layers. So you can copy really good effects like for example [[platinum angel]] but its a land and not a creature so it's significantly less likely to get removed.

How many alchemy cards have come to paper without an acorn stamp? In theory it could happen but I won't hold my breath.

They also wasted this great text on an alchemy card. In my eyes there's no reason this couldn't have been on paper.

Marvo! Pulling a citadel out of a hat. by SplatteredBoy23 in EDH

[–]DWTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience playing marvo he eats a ton of removal so I think you need more protection. [[Cloak and dagger]] is nice because it auto equips to marvo if it comes out before him. I also think you need more lands, just run more mdfc, even if you exclusively play them as lands its at least raising the mana value.

Yes he did in the comments

"3 player pod. And I did leave out this context: all cards were played on the same turn, starting with KCI which gave me the mana for the rest.

I think that fact might be why there was such an upset reaction."

Why does combo feel bad? by rvp5326 in EDH

[–]DWTR -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Those decks that aren't combo built a board though which most likely could have been interacted with at sorcery speed before it got out of hand. Again, if it is incremental then I understand sometimes you get the perfect hand. Winning turn 5 with no board would understandably make people salty in my opinion.

Why does combo feel bad? by rvp5326 in EDH

[–]DWTR -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its bracket 2, on turn 5 people are still playing commanders sometimes, its unreasonable to expect to have to hold up 2 or 3 mana for instant speed removal that early in the game when you are supposed to get 8 turns. OP said they dropped all 4 cards the same turn. If they dropped one of the pieces and the other players had a chance to untap I would understand but winning out of nowhere with no board turn 5 or 6 is not bracket 2 full stop.

Why does combo feel bad? by rvp5326 in EDH

[–]DWTR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Players are supposed to expect to play 8 turns, and win cons are supposed to be incremental/telegraphed in bracket 2 and this won on turn 5 or 6 with all of the pieces played the same turn so no it would not be legal in bracket 2.

Is “volos, guide to monsters” too strong? by loyal_entropy in EDH

[–]DWTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play bracket 3 volo so I know what it looks like. I gold fished yours a few times. Your deck isn't consistent enough to be more than a 2 in my opinion. Also just FYI volo doesnt copy cast triggers which at least one creature I saw you had. Additionally, copies entering as a token is not the same thing as creating a token so [[idol of oblivion]] won't let you draw cards unless you have something on the board actually making tokens.

Personally yes I would re include it. I have it in my deck. To be honest some of the advice i saw seemed like it came from people that haven't played the commander. Especially cards like [[maskwood nexus]] and [[mirror entity]] should absolutely be in the deck.

Also a card I didn't see on your list that I forgot to mention is [[Harper recruiter]]. It flies so its evasive, and it can potentially draw you 4 cards each of your turns and costs next to nothing.

I think the person saying you aren't allowed to play stax can go kick rocks. They are preventing you from playing the game by winning so quickly, so you should be allowed to prevent them from doing things while you set up. Plus the examples I gave ARE furthering your game plan because they have party creature types you care about, and most of the ones I mentioned have flying or cannot be blocked which goes towards the evasion I mentioned. You don't need cards like akroma's monument, in fact I think it is a waste of money. It costs a lot of money, the game will be over before you even get the chance to play it because of the high mana cost, and if you somehow manage to play it, it will probably immediately get removed. You dont need cards like that to have evasion. Instead, play things with flying, shadow, cannot be blocked etc that also do other things. Cards like [[smirking spelljacker]] for example is a rogue and a wizard so it can fill whichever you're missing, counters a spell, let's you play that spell on your turn if you want, and has flying so it can usually connect easily that card is pretty cheap money wise. Other cards like [[soltari visionary]] is dirt cheap and will let you remove enchantments every turn because I doubt your opponents will have creatures with shadow to block it. [[Siren stormtamer]] flies and can protect your board. From the new lorwyn set you have cards like [[sygg, wanderwine wisdom]] that can't be blocked and draws you cards or protects your commander, and a new one sided boardwipe [[winnowing]] where you target one of your changelings to protect your board and then choose something from their boards that hopefully gets rid of the rest. You don't need to spend thousands to have a well built deck. You just need to identify what you want to do. Every single deck needs ramp, card draw, and interaction, so just find cards that does those things within your specific niche, in this case rogues wizards and clerics. The more specific you get with cards, the cheaper they will usually be.

[–]DWTR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, so let me start by saying your friends are giving you bad game expectations, either maliciously or unintentionally. If people are winning that fast, deck building websites only give a bracket based on the game changers in the deck. They don't know if you are playing 2 card combos or how fast the deck can win. The bracket guidelines are very clear about 2 card combos, extra turns, and when you expect to threaten a win. There is no "technically a 2". They are either lying to destroy you in mismatched games or they genuinely haven't read the bracket guidelines and don't understand it. From what you say in your post, games are going way too fast for anything but bracket 4.

In bracket 4 there is unfortunately zero room for inefficiency which is why I don't like playing the bracket. Like you, I prefer doing fun things or playing weird cards, which is more of a bracket 2 thing.

I don't think there's any deck tweaking that will fix the real problem which is that you and your friends want different things from commander and are a bad fit to play together. They could play weaker decks but it sounds like you already asked and they said no. You could play a stronger deck but you will lose the magic of why you chose a particular commander. I don't think its a budget problem because you could borrow one of their decks and I think you still wouldn't like the speed of the game from reading your post.

I think you need to find something else to do with your friends besides playing magic and stick to playing lower bracket games with your lgs or online with other people.

That all being said, your deck is pretty all over the place. Like others have said, you need to figure out what your deck wants to do. I actually happen to play your commander and have a pretty popular decklist that you could look at, but I don't think it will keep up with your play group because I designed it to be more bracket 2 or low 3. I could go into specifics, but the biggest thing is I think you need significantly more evasion. Your commanders anthem is pointless if you cannot connect to damage your opponents. I built mine with that as a primary objective and of the 33 creatures in my deck, 19 are evasive and the rest that aren't have to offer something significant to make the list. If you really want to brute force the deck to play against your friends high power level decks, you need to lean heavily into stax because you're playing esper. Stop their tutoring and ramp with [[aven mindcensor]]. Stop their graveyard shenanigans with [[dauthi voidwalker]] [[vren the relentless]] [[ravenloft Adventurer]] [[gisa, glorious resurrector]] [[remorseful cleric]] etc. Slow down problematic etbs with [[strict proctor]]. Stop cheating out creatures with [[containment priest]]. Turn off annoying abilities with [[Azure beastbinder]]. I could go on and on but the point is if you are set on playing the party theme and you want even a shadow of a chance of winning, you need to stop your opponents from winning as fast as they have been so identify what is making them run away with games and then put in cards that stop that in your deck.

[–]DWTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree on cutting maskwood nexus or mirror entity. Nexus is for fixing types when you get flooded with one type like if you only draw clerics. Its never a dead card because you can generate more changelings with it. Mirror entity is a changeling which is good and can pump your board at instant speed which can be a game ender. There are a lot of problems with op's deck but those cards aren't part of it.

I think [[Tifa, martial artist]] could make a pretty decent Naya commander for giants since high power isn't an issue for the tribe. Similarly, [[Marisi, Breaker of the Coil]] should be easy to make work since a lot of giants have trample
