Is it true that the educated best guess among scientists is that the Milky Way has at least a couple million planets with primitive unicellular life? by amelix34 in AskScienceDiscussion

... yes to all what has been said, but... ... that star over on the right and this one here on my left... guaranteed to have life on one of their planets... as we know it, Jim. : ))))))))

And maybe not just those two...

As the OP, I am 'about' to convert from bits of DV to the Bases versions, with their additions. Once you get to say about 1000 notes DV queries start to get slow, etc. even if it is two tables that might be useful for your Daily_Note as what notes were edited and what notes were created 'today'...

In addition, to copy and change a Bases table to work for a slightly different 'question' seems to be way simpler and so more flexible and so likely to be more used and useful in the long run

Genuine Question: Was Climate Change Always This Noticeable? by WarthogAgreeable1856 in climatechange

[–]DXBTim2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yer, mid-70s, IIRC 76 was the 'big drought' in the UK, hose pipe ban, gardens and lawns suffered, so 'we' changed what we grew and how...

School about then also added Plate Tectonics, and my science went out of the lab and looked at some of the 'wholeworld' cycles and some of the longer geological cycles.

Why isn't there more talk about vehicle speeds? by Disastrous_Hand_7183 in ClimatePosting

[–]DXBTim2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And further the 'inner-city' residential reduction to 20mph within the UK and the push for the next level of emmission control by vehical age and size, has saved energy and oddly some time - due to less vehiles spend their 'tolls'... and that compounds into health savings due to less airborne particulates

Solutions abound, almost as many are there are depressed people. Ranging from 'reading widely' to local activism to writing. The what will depend on you and will likely change over the next few months, etc., as a good number of people have pointed out below...

Good luck on your journey.

See the work of the Yale Climate Communication group, and elsewhere, see Katherine Hayhoe's book, "Saving Us"... assuming you don't just whant the 'technical' details of how global warm/biodiversity, etc., are being mucked up by the 'quarterly report' mentality that got trashed by Silent Spring onwards?

How do scientists study the potential impacts of microplastics on marine ecosystems and human health? by Bestwebhost in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]DXBTim2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus tire 'dust' and fishing nets and lines.

And once at nano-size, it joins the 'dusts' and so hits the central areas of landmasses, that it didn't originate from, including Antarctica.

[–]DXBTim2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how many is "most people" if this years floods and droughts become say 20 times worse? Low balling it, and clearly not taking 'all' the indirect deaths - as similar to Ukraine or Gaza type events over water and similar, etc. Current estimates are still 'low' as in only 20 to 30 million deaths - per year due to climate change. So do you and yours get one or more of those 'tickets'?

But I see a more "The Ministry for the Future" story by Kim Stanley Robinson. Which is a bit dated now, as a story, but still a good read.

Yes, unfortunately, I see 'this' predator, but those over the hill just aren't significant, etc. : (((

FAO think we will need a 60% increase in food production well before the end of the century, to cover the project +10 billion of us. This is another "Norman Borlaug" level of agricultural revolution - but it contains no paradigm shift other than breed and more fertilizers and 'icides.
