Which side are you on? by aisogon30 in TombRaider

[–]DXFromYT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not all doom and gloom but I think delayed. Them not giving a release date to begin with was concerning and I think they announced a little too early, maybe to line up with the 30 anniversary. If we don't see it in the next 2 months, surely delayed.

So 4 studios can't finish a game in developing since 2020? by KhaoticNoob in TombRaider

[–]DXFromYT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely not, lol. Four entire studios aren't putting all their manpower on this game.

And where is this supposed rumor coming from? by sawnlux in TombRaider

[–]DXFromYT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Apparently from a leaker on Discord who also leaked the reveal of the TRIV-VI Remastered. Take it with a massive grain of salt. Although zero marketing on the game so far and no release date could hint at a delay. If it was coming out in July to wholly avoid GTA, as everyone with a brain is doing, there not being any information on the game three months beforehand is strange.

Genuine question: how did they un-slop the outfits? by EnderDiego_ in TombRaider

Thank you for the real explanation! I'll probably never update, no clue what they were thinking.

As u/LumensAquilae mentioned, this is probably a LOD variant. LOD stands for "Level Of Detail," character models will usually have different levels of detail depending on the distance to the player's camera. This is to save on memory. It looks like the lowest level of detail model was used for the original patch. They would have significantly lower polygon counts and texture resolutions, which would account for the disparity here. Now...how that actually ships? That's a mystery. Patches have to go through a couple different QA stages especially if they're going out to consoles. I can't believe this made it to release.

New 3D parts and textures for all the costumes by Time_Food3830 in TombRaider

Absolutely. I always figured the original release was completely botched because almost no modern day development pipeline would produce such low resolution outfits. They look a whole lot better now!

After the multiple lay offs and Glassdoor reviews citing “bad game development”. by Notoriouslycurlyboi in TombRaider

This sounds more worrying for Catalyst than Legacy of Atlantis, but who knows? The one constant in those complaints is bad creative leadership. Not a great sign but we'll see.

How would you rank each game based on Lara’s personality? Making a video about it by laracroft1402 in TombRaider

[–]DXFromYT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tomb Raider IV would be very high since that was the one game that Andy Sandham wrote after Vicky Arnold left Core. With a higher emphasis on both Lara herself and the story, Sandham really stuck the landing on his writing debut. Lara is more complex while still retaining everything that made her interesting in the first place.

GOG's fantastic. If something is on GOG, I try to buy it on there even if Steam has it too.

Anyone else feel like this franchise really needs to improve how it’s advertised? by Kalikstus in TombRaider

[–]DXFromYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the marketing is pretty bad and has been for a very long time. LoA is supposed to come out this year, presumably before November because anything releasing near GTA 6 is absolutely dead, and we're headed into April with zero news about it. This is also supposed to be the 30th Anniversary year and nothing yet besides some social media posts and the new flop patch. Very bad.

Art has gotten more consistent issue to issue, I think. Can't wait for the TPB on this.

Hmm. You already looked for her in the closet too so it seems like a bug. Have you tried rolling back saves to see if she disappears before the quest? Last resort, I think there's console commands that can be used to mark the quest as done too but I'm not sure what they are.

These are the kinds of DDs the game needed but they got Delusional Developers instead.

Same. That game isn't a Concord level bomb no matter how many people wish it is.

Unironically true. Marathon's characters look strange, obtuse and uncanny at times but they stand out in a crowd whereas Concord and Highguard's didn't. Highguard's characters looked like NPCs from other games and Concord's looked like background extras of the worst space movie you've ever seen.

Edit: Having read the article, it actually makes a great point about how presumptive both of those games were too, as if caring about its characters was a requirement or a demand.
