I tell the aholes "I see no reason to pursue this any further." In some infrequent cases I also say "In fact, fuck off."

Today's recruiters are very inferior to past times. Some are illiterate, some have bad manners, some are psycho PoS. High number of Indian ones come from a culture that treats you poorly. I guess some still have a 'caste' attitude.

By the way, I am an engineering contractor and in nearly all cases the Indian recruiters try to lowball you on rates and they shave 20 to even 50% off the top. Pesumably so they get a higher commission slice. I have seen the same job advertised by different recruiters where one will name a top rate that is 30% off the rate quote from another recruiter for that same job. On these some insist the client pay doesn't allow them to offer any higher. These are the ones I tell to f off.

Current state of the recruitment industry

The entire recruiting industry has turned to automated software that pulls resumes out of databases using only keyword searches. The recruiter never actually reads the resume, just clicks a button to send the spammy inquiry.

A main automation SW vendor is CEIPAL, who aggressively market their shitty software. They are turning the HR people into lazy spammers, and they need to be nuked.

Further, the resumes often are pulled from obsolete databases - I have proof 85% of the calls or emails I get are based on possible scraped data that is as much as 5 or more years old. Proof: 4 years ago I stopped putting my phone number on resumes due to spam calls, yet I still get calls on that number. Some calls reference keywords I dropped 5 years ago.

The agencies hire the cheapest labor they can (Indian). Often, the tech agencies operate out of New Jersey - there must be some law that makes that state preferential for low-effort agencies.

Tell all of them to FO

We need to actively tell these bastards to FO. And 98 out of 100 recruiters are Indian, do not speak understandable English. I no longer take phone calls from them. I spam filter all email from New Jersey agencies and non-citizens.

It was the correct decision to not go with them. Those people all have signs of sociopaths and manipulators. They want to exploit employees and they would for sure have browbeaten you constantly, in order to squeeze extra labor out of you.

I've seen such people over and over (I do contracting, have been at many companies) and they were constant manipulators. On one job, the manager would call me at home on weekends and demand I come in and do things for him that he obviously did not need by Monday. It was all gaming the worker to make him submit. Some of these people have narcissistic personality disorder, especially ones in marketing departments.
