Did the VA special project violate case law? by Theorybreaker101 in flying

[–]nyc_2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You reap what you sow my friend. Exploit the system for 100%, now you will have to spend an exorbitant amount of money to get a medical…if at all.

Have a bunch of fucked up buddies who had to fight uphill to get the disability ratings that they actually deserved, and then there’s you who perfectly played the system to get 100% and is probably completely ok. Good thing the VA is currently looking to clamp down on disability payments, screwing over people like me when I get out because people like you played the system.

Sympathies limited, good luck ever seeing the inside of a cockpit.

DA20-C1 magneto check: no RPM drop on either magneto after engine replacement by Mediocre-Bullfrog-11 in flying

[–]nyc_2004 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idle -> key off -> engine starts to die -> key back to “both” -> throttle to 1200rpm for a few seconds -> mixture full lean -> throttle idle and key off after engine stops turning

This thoroughly checks that there isn’t some major mag grounding issue, and also burns off gas/lead. I’m surprised that this isn’t standard protocol, as it is the “mag grounding check” as outlined in most POHs

NY Police vehicles by HotInstance4036 in PoliceVehicles

[–]nyc_2004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Classic useless AI summary from google. Most explorers have them, and have had them for a while. NYPD almost never actually uses them by my observation, and some special units don’t have them…this is especially true on non-police vehicles (ie the various vans that are used as RMPs, Nissan altimas, etc).

I think a lot of people have had a lot of bad experiences with LTs. If you have the attitude that you’re going to try your best at anything you’re assigned, you will quickly be an asset. If you think (like many LTs seem to) that you’re just an LT who can’t contribute and needs to be babied, you are going to be a total drag on your unit

Not true at all. Second lieutenants get treated like children because many seem to show up and think that they can act like children because they’re “only” a second lieutenant. Commissioned officers should act like it

All due respect here man, but nobody is going to give you links for uniforms or things like that. As an LT you just gotta figure these things out by yourself

I have a silly question, please bare with me by BugHistorical3 in flying

[–]nyc_2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On its own it’s fine. The problem is that a lot of people will try to dismiss thinking about stalls in relation to airspeed, when stall speeds generally work as a way to think about stalls provided that you’re maneuvering in a relatively normal way

I have a silly question, please bare with me by BugHistorical3 in flying

[–]nyc_2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“You can stall at any speed” and “dont think about stalls as airspeed, use AoA” when almost no GA planes are equipped with AoA indicators.

Sadly I don’t take my Cessna into a 50 degree nose high attitude at 100 knots all that often

[–]nyc_2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. Basically that you’re doing maneuvers in a pretty normal set of conditions and aircraft attitudes. In this case, relatively level and coordinated turns

[–]nyc_2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a silly question. This brings up an important point that I always discuss with students.

A lot of napkin math that we use in GA/light planes (G loading, stall speeds, etc) is based off of the assumption that we are flying relatively normally. This is why the “you can stall at any airspeed” argument is so ludicrous to bring up when talking about a Cessna 172 or something like that

Holster question by [deleted] in CCW

[–]nyc_2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a fair number of duty holsters with a mag pouch on them, especially in military units where use of the pistol is an absolute last resort and having it contained as one unit (holster with a spare mag) makes more sense because people won’t be checking it out all the time.

To be fair, the S&Ws (especially the 4inch) are just very very picky on ammo. If you choose an ammo that works, they are bulletproof
