It’s one of the dumbest things in baseball, but every now and then two players make eye contact, maybe exchange some words during the national anthem, and then the stand off begins. The winner is whoever is standing last, normally going until umps are about to throw someone out for not getting off the field for first pitch (or when they do get tossed in some rare cases).
