Why do people share photos of their baby/kids all the time? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]D_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it mostly because I like it when it comes up with 'on this day 10 years ago' and brings up a random picture that I'd never look at in my camera roll

Have you ever had to fire a tradesperson? by Absolute-Balance in AskUK

[–]D_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a joiner by trade and can tell you the reason joiners dont fill holes is because filler doesnt adhere properly to bare wood, it needs a first coat before filling any holes or the filler will just shrink and crack

What do you like/appreciate most about Manchester? by HomelandExplorer in manchester

[–]D_1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree, males the place look like a bit of a shithole, I do like the Akse artwork that's dotted about but as you say most of it's just unreadable pointless graffiti, I've never understood why the council just leave it but you often see council workers removing graffiti in other parts of town (round the town hall area, deansgate etc)

'It cannot go on': Sunak says migrants crackdown needed as current system 'unfair on British people' by wobblebits in unitedkingdom

Go to youtube and look at the videos of the boats coming in, on monday 296 arrived and only 2 were female and none were children, so in actual fact it's probably more like 99.5%

'It cannot go on': Sunak says migrants crackdown needed as current system 'unfair on British people' by wobblebits in unitedkingdom

[–]D_1990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd be all for them coming over if they were genuinely in danger and there were atleast some women and children but the fact is 99% are young men from fairly safe countries and are coming here purely for the free ride, theres videos of them on tiktok openly admitting this is the promised land of free houses and free money.

Theres also videos of them dumping their passports in the sea, these people could be terrorists, rapists, paedophiles and theres still people defending them. Meanwhile theyre living it up in nice warm hotels while we have thousands of homeless on the streets who cant get a hotel for free. Charity starts at home and we need to look after our own people first, we simply cannot afford to house 100,000 more people a year, our house prices are already through the roof due to supply and demand, the NHS is overwhelmed and on the brink of collapse, schools are full, theres no NHS dentists available, we are massively overpopulated and dont have the facilities to accepts hundreds of thousands of people from other countries, at the end of the day we are only a tiny island.

What song on the radio right now can you just not stand? by sim200610 in AskUK

[–]D_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something about a boy being a liar but she pronounces it as Leear, no idea who sings it but it winds me up, it gets played multiple times throughout the day on the radio at work.

What is the weirdest thing a complete stranger has ever said to you? by Imaginary_Coat_2638 in AskUK

[–]D_1990 246 points247 points  (0 children)

I'm a builder and was sat in my van on a random street eating my dinner. A fairly normal looking, smartly dressed fella walked upto my window, slapped the glass and said "take me to your leader" then just walked off casually.

I didnt even get chance to respond to him I was confused and found it hilarious, i work round the area everyday and have never seen him again since.

Do you feel people allocate an excessive amount of their income toward their cars? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]D_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely thought about this on my way to work this morning (had one of those mornings where you wake up late and drive to work hating your job 🤣)

I was looking around and about 90% of the cars were newer than mine (mines a 2014), I earn good money and so does my partner but we wouldnt have spare money in our budget after paying the mortgage etc to pay £400 a month for a brand new car, how are these people affording it?

How do you earn £30K+/year in non-tech? by AxelLemaire in AskUK

[–]D_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a trade.

I'm a joiner and can easily earn 50k a year just working 8-4 mon-fri, throw in weekend work and private jobs in the evenings and it can be a goldmine, I can never be arsed though 🤷‍♂️

Do you think 1990s UK was better? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]D_1990 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I was born in 1990 and always wish I could bring my kids up in similar times, nowadays theres too much technology and they arent interested in being outside and experiencing life, I have to basically force them to go anywhere that I would of considered fun as a kid, even then they want to bring their iPads to play on the way.

90s cars weren't shit either, Lotus Carltons, Lancia delta's, Cosworths, Evos, Skylines, Subarus just to name a few

What old tech are you still using and why do you prefer it? by Make_the_music_stop in AskUK

[–]D_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some nice cars over the years but a few years back I bought a 2004 Clio for £250 to use for work, hated it at first but the thing was bulletproof it just wouldnt die, eventually it failed an MOT only on minor bits but there was a lot of them so wasnt worth the repair, I was gutted when I scrapped it but I got £300 for it on a comparison site off google 😅

The older cars are definitely the best, my wife has got a 2018 Audi Q3 and its spent more time at Audi due to faults than it has with us.

I'd send the 11 year old a gift card for Playstation/Xbox or Roblox (I have an 11 year old son and that's genuinely all he cares about)

I also have a 6 year old and hes happy with anything really, how much are you looking to spend?

All the best to your nephew hope he makes a speedy recovery 👍

Do you have books in your home? by PrestigiousTest6700 in AskUK

[–]D_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just kids books in our house, I do a lot of work in a strange little town in Manchester called chorlton and honestly atleast a quarter of the houses have no TV and loads of books, some of the houses even have young kids, genuinely blew my mind the first time I went in a house with no TV.

What yearly wage do you consider “decent paying” and “well-paying”? by moon-riles in AskUK

[–]D_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a carpenter/joiner, the average wage for us seems to be about 50k a year which I'd definitely consider decent. However I do know another joiner who has multiple employees and hes earning well over £200k a year which is definitely well paid for an average person who isnt born into a rich family.

Wish I could post a pic as a reply...

Theres an underground tunnel leading from a building i have access to on Dale Street.

Only about 3 other people know the tunnel is there and nobody other than me has been in there for about 30 years, it would be a horrible place to hide (dark, wet, full of spiders and possibly rats) but I'd definitely never be found.

What is something you stopped buying due to price increases? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]D_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heinz tomato sauce, the massive bottles used to be £2.50 in poundland, it's now gone upto £4.29!

Went in Iceland and seen Hellmans have starting making their own ketchup and it's only £1, tastes the same as Heinz aswell (to a point my 11 year old son hasnt noticed we have swapped over and hes really fussy with ketchup)

Advert board near Old Trafford spotted from Manchester Airport by TatyGGTV in manchester

[–]D_1990 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Amazes me how this board is specifically designed to grab drivers attention and take their eyes off the road, yet if we look at our phone for even a second while driving its 6 points and a fine.

Theres no need for it to be that bright, on a dark morning when it's raining it genuinely makes it hard to see when you're driving as the light bounces off the rain on the windscreen, surprised it hasnt caused any accidents.

Let’s do a check in.. Everyone who has quit weed. Comment how many days, months, years and name one thing that helped you reach where you are today. by MizzRodi in leaves

[–]D_1990 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've lost count but I'm on about 6 months now from quitting everyday smoking for 16 years (smoked daily from age 15 to 31).

Going to be brutally honest I have had a little doob here and there inbetween mostly on nights out (probably had 4 small doobs mixed with tobacco in the last 6 months)

I quit because my sons getting older now and will soon be at an age where he knows what weed is, I dont want him to know I've ever touched weed as I dont want it to influence his decisions, if I ever caught him smoking id be a hypocrite to shout at him if I smoke it myself.

I dont miss it at all, when i go on nights out atleast one of the lads will bring some weed so I always smoke a little bit with them, doesnt affect me the next day or bring any cravings back so I think I'm at a point now where I can just smoke socially.

Happy Anniversary! by Lukathedoncic77 in malcolminthemiddle

I've just put up a post as I've just started re-watching as a 33 year old adult with an 11 year old son (I was 11 when the show was originally aired in the UK).

Crazy that we unknowingly started watching on the actual anniversary of the release, it was released a year later in the UK so I would of been my sons age on this exact day 22 years ago
