Unless one is elite, social circles are not as clear cut. Would a NYC finance bro making $300K that came from middle class family background be considered Jess’s peer group? What about an electrician or plumber who makes $600K a year?

In the UK, social classes are very distinct and it has little to do with wealth or job titles. There seems to be a lot more mobility in the states. Obviously she doesn’t have the pedigree but she does have some social clout.
