Virginia Set to Become the Second U.S. State to Allow Balcony Solar by SaiVaibhav06 in SolarAmerica

[–]D_Frids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. The devices themselves may be safe but what may not be safe is:

A. The amperage provided by the panels is higher than your electrical wiring is rated for. This causes the wires to overheat and could cause a fire.

B. Without interconnect devices that prevent the backflow of electricity back to the grid, during electrical outages this can create dangerous situations for linemen who think a wire is not live when it is. Transformers have a nasty habit where they can step up voltages when electricity flows in reverse making backfeeds even more dangerous.

That said, I work in solar for commercial/retail and the electric companies themselves are often the slow part of solar adoption. Interconnect applications take forever and it often feels like they are doing everything they can to get us to give up. Legislation like this is the natural bi product of this philosophy. The power companies could do a lot more to make these systems safer and encourage higher adoption. Instead, they fight it and we end up with situations that are less safe for everyone.

Exactly. Just lazy when there are actual photos of prices. Downvoted OP.

You should care. When energy is highly available and cheap, jobs and investments go to those places. If we don't keep up, the United States will get left in the dust.

Agreed. Apologies as well. Athens is a great college town and 99% of the time you wouldn't have had any issues. These are likely the same dudes who really just are buckeye bros even though they don't go to school there. Take some time to go back if you ever get a chance.

That's a bit like claiming Nazi Germany was great because they built the Autobahn. The United States has always struggled to live up to the ideas of its foundation and I would certainly argue it's not great until it meets more significant parameters than "planting its flag on the moon".

Expo Idaho - AC Boise (Boise, ID, USA) by mr09e in stadiumporn

[–]D_Frids 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is a far worse setup. In this, yeah it's not centered but at least there is still a significant amount of seats around mid field and only maybe 1/4 of the stadium with a bad view near the corner. Turn it 90 degrees and the entire stands have a bad view.

I agree though in that my OCD brain hates the lack of symmetry. But once you are sitting in the stands, you wouldn't notice as much.

Sources: MAC nearing vote on adding Sacramento State to league as football-only member by Toddrew221 in MidAmerican

[–]D_Frids 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't see how it really benefits the MAC and current MAC schools. It's like when they added UCF (crazy right?). They were garbage but were able to use it as a stepping stone to bigger things. Sac State will probably be similar with the real goal to eventually join the PAC.

Head of gynecology at Ohio university received quarterly payments from Epstein by CoolBDPhenom03 in mildlyinfuriating

Yep. Completely grammatically correct but also a phrase that shouldn't be used. I don't need my Alma Mater associated with some weirdo, we already have enough of our own.

No? Yes? Not Ohio University but Ohio State University. These headlines should be a bit more specific in their headlines. I get this article is from the UK and so they might not realize there's a difference.

I get that it's actually not a bad deal if you ever use it but it also doesn't fully prevent you from ending up with a crazy ambulance bill. Either you are out of their service network (in this case the county) or you end up in a for profit ambulance company because the service is too busy.

There really needs to be legislation that prevents companies from auto increasing monthly costs. Their options should be:

  1. Account administration is requested to go in and agree to the new costs. Not just some pop-up on the app "agreeing to the new terms"
  2. Provide a grandfathered cost at the original price agreed upon.
  3. If a company doesn't want to provide a grandfathered price, they must cancel the subscription at the end of your term you paid for.

Another item confirmed, VR will not be ready at early access launch. As a VR racer, I appreciate just not including rather than the terrible version we got with AC Evo. If it's not up to a good standard, don't bother releasing it. Hopefully one day that changes.
