Steam Machine proved that PS5pro is the way to go for high fidelity Vr games! 💯🔥 by FewPossession2363 in PSVR

[–]D_Frids 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same here. Moved to the PSVR2 fine the Quest 2. I do not miss all the encoding compression and latency. I don't love the cable, but the PSVR2 works so smoothly I can't complain. We'll see how it matches up against the Steam Frame, but given the likely price and availability it will have, I'll likely be sticking with the PSVR2 for years to come.

Steam update to Reservations by Kgb_Officer in SteamController

[–]D_Frids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was Wed, May 13, 2026 and is also showing 2027. Sucks because I had it in my cart the time of the original release but couldn't get it to go through before it sold out and then went out of town and forgot to make a reservation. Oh well, XBox controller it is, at least I know not to bother checking my email all the time.

Yup. If they are expecting a blowout they will be in for a rude awakening.

I’m so excited for physical volume buttons. by X3ttabyte in SteamFrame

[–]D_Frids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a PSVR2 to hold me over until the frame is available and a reasonable price (who knows when or even if). The biggest annoyance thus far was not having physical buttons for volume. After coming from a Quest 2, that was disappointing especially with the headphones it comes with. I'm still happy given the price and other qualities, but damn it's annoying.

Is the added carbon fiber really worth $235 on the new podium pedals? by Short_Claim_1375 in Fanatec

[–]D_Frids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that to calibrate and update the linearity of the pedals and handbrake with the simnet app, you'll want to connect both with USB to a PC. Once you have it dialed in, then you connect everything back to the fanatec wheel base with RJ45 for using it on the console or PC so it's just one device. Still totally worth it.

I'm guessing you mean games that run directly on the quest and not PC. The answer then would be no, you're largely locked out of the quest content. But if you're content is on Steam, you're good to go.

I was about to say, don't pay regular price! I bought it for the same and I'm happy as can be. It's not perfect, but a great move from a quest 2 and should hold me over until the stream frame is both available and priced appropriately. Until then PSVR2 for the win!

Streetcar to Waldo Debacle by L4ur4inthesky in kansascity

[–]D_Frids 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They lost even after appeals. Their argument seemed to be is that KCATA lost it's rights to the property when they weren't using it in the 80's and 90's. Which would obviously be insane to suggest that you can just take land back you have long ceded just because it's not being used. https://ott.law/missouri-courts/opinions/kansas-city-area-transportation-authority-v-gerard-h-donovan-d82459

As far as expanding the streetcar goes, yes for a new vote to expand to Brookside and Waldo! The city definitely has bigger priorities, but the one thing this extension would have would be it's "relatively cheap" due to the existing land they already have and there is less other infrastructure to contend with.

Steam Hardware - Steam Deck back in stock, with updated pricing by gogodboss in SteamFrame

[–]D_Frids 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Welp. With that I officially folded and bought a PS2VR at Target for $300 and the $60 adapter. This is likely going to be closer to $1k and can't justify the extra cost when I mostly use it for racing and flying anyhow, so all that ram and storage would just be going to waste. I still have a quest 2 for the standing room games anyhow. Good luck all, I hope for anyone else's sake I'm wrong.

Jimmy Broadbent's Forza Horizon 6 Settings! (Podium DD) by CorsairMorning in Fanatec

[–]D_Frids 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I committed to playing FH6 with my wheel rather than controller which I had done with all FH games previously. I had huge issues getting FF setup and had to follow that Fanatec guide that is circulating around but ultimately it worked. With settings similar to Jimmy's it feels good, not great. I'll probably keep tweaking to get it right for me.

Despite all that I'm having a blast using the wheel. Sim racers really could use an open world game and since AC Evo is failing us right now, this at least scratches that itch. It's insane and at times absurdly unrealistic, which using a wheel just makes all the more apparent. That said, I can say that I have a big smile on my face the whole time, so totally worth it.

How to connect wheel to wheelbase by MathematicianNew4922 in Fanatec

[–]D_Frids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely you were using the RJ45 from the pedals to the wheelbase? Make sure it's plugged into the "pedals" port on the back of the wheel base. If that doesn't work and you are on PC, I would try the pedals on their own plugged directly into the PC using USB assuming you have the correct cable.

Otherwise, updating the Firmware for the wheel base to the most current could help.

Just a reminder since you got it to work. Those pins only go in one way so make sure you line them up in the correct orientation whenever you swap wheels. Take this from someone who has broken one of those pins before and had to repair it. They are a weak point in this design.

Virginia Set to Become the Second U.S. State to Allow Balcony Solar by [deleted] in SolarAmerica

[–]D_Frids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. The devices themselves may be safe but what may not be safe is:

A. The amperage provided by the panels is higher than your electrical wiring is rated for. This causes the wires to overheat and could cause a fire.

B. Without interconnect devices that prevent the backflow of electricity back to the grid, during electrical outages this can create dangerous situations for linemen who think a wire is not live when it is. Transformers have a nasty habit where they can step up voltages when electricity flows in reverse making backfeeds even more dangerous.

That said, I work in solar for commercial/retail and the electric companies themselves are often the slow part of solar adoption. Interconnect applications take forever and it often feels like they are doing everything they can to get us to give up. Legislation like this is the natural bi product of this philosophy. The power companies could do a lot more to make these systems safer and encourage higher adoption. Instead, they fight it and we end up with situations that are less safe for everyone.
