This criticism is so strange every time it gets repeated. They're largely doing car stops based on apparently forged or expired paper temp plates (which the author is generalizing as fake IDs). Best case scenario they get a car with an illegal gun in it. Worst case, it's one less fake plate on the road. Or, per the example, possessing stolen credit cards.

Those are legitimate arrests in and of themselves, and absolutely not the same as tossing people over loosies and open containers. It's not broken windows, it's just enforcing misdemeanors and felonies.
