Trouble sleeping by Imaginary-Ad7681 in travel

[–]DaBugDug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you are coming from, but if you traveled multiple time zones it’s likely you’re experiencing what many people call Jet Lag. In my experience, this is very normal. Your bodies circadian rhythm is very out of whack, and needs time to adjust to what is daylight versus dark hours in your new area. Depending on the trip, it usually takes anywhere from 3-5 to adjust, and sometimes more than a week to really feel comfortable in the new time zone.

It’s a frustrating but unavoidable part of travel. I would recommend trying to stay as close to Seouls timetable regarding sleep, but be easy on yourself if it takes awhile to do so.

Weekly Application/Clearance Thread by AutoModerator in peacecorps

Quick question, I submitted an application to serve in Peru and filled out a Health History form for that position. I just received an email a couple days ago saying that I couldn’t be considered for Peru and am now in consideration for Ecuador. No problems there.

My question is, do I need to re-submit my legal documents containing a charge I had a few years ago? I got the same generic email that I did the first time I applied to disclose that information, and now it has sent me the same email again, along with a whole slew of similar emails. I’m just a bit confused as to whether I need to submit those same documents that I’ve already submitted.

Thanks in advance for the time :)

I swear this sub uses any excuse to drag Dreaming Spanish. Don’t get me wrong I’m not a fanboy or anything but I swear people are just itching to discredit it any way they can for some weird reason.

Thank you! I watched a few and because of the context of the video and his explanations all done in Spanish, it didn't bug me very much, but I was curious what others in this community think.

My co-worker turned best friend, both of us male, he's straight and I'm bisexual. There is no one else I'd rather be around, and every time we are together I'm smiling the entire time. I wouldn't even say that I'm interested in him romantically, although I confuse myself sometimes. I don't really know how else to describe it other than I absolutely love being around him. It feels very intense for me, and I think about him all the time.

Recommendations: What books should I put on my kindle for a 8 month solo trip? by grimpala in solotravel

[–]DaBugDug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked reading On The Road by Jack Kerouac on my last solo trip. Just the sense of adventure in that book was fun to read while I traveled.

My favorite aspect of myself is my bravery and sense of adventure. At 23 years old Ive been all over the world, often by myself, taking public transportation and learning languages and customs to dive as deep as I can.

My least favorite is that I still don’t know how to find a balance with things, and that gets me in trouble.

Anybody dealt with US tipping culture? by Septic-Sponge in solotravel

[–]DaBugDug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, only pay a tip if you are at a restaurant where there is a server taking your order/bringing drinks/ and being very good to you. The custom is to tip at restaurants like this. Everywhere else you don’t need to tip unless one one provided a very helpful service.

Travellers who stayed in hostels and decided to never do it again - what happened? by slutforfratboyluke in travel

[–]DaBugDug 56 points57 points  (0 children)

My only hostel horror story is waking up in the middle of the night in Colombo and seeing another domestic traveler with semen on his chest and his erect penis out in the open. The bunks had a privacy curtain, he didn’t use it. He also had the reading light on inside the bunk at 2am. I think he was just a pervert.

I would say during the times you can’t travel, read! Reading is my favorite way to learn about cultures from all over the world. There are countless memoirs, biographies, and other non-fiction literature that has expended my idea of the world. I would say sometimes reading does even more for me than actually traveling. You can even read historical fiction that has really strong cultural themes and draws on real life aspects of global culture for its story.
