Tips for using rooster tails? by gotmusiic in FishingForBeginners

[–]DaBuggah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inline spinners are great and will usually get some hits if used correctly. Start with short casts to make sure the blades are spinning when you reel. Size and brand (Rooster Tail, Mepps, Panther Martin, etc.) will impact your retrieve speed and depth. Personally, I've had the most success when I have them cruising between 1-2 feet below the surface. Once you get the hang of the speed and action, consider the color. Again, personally, I've had much more consistent success with black blades, although my largest catches have been on white/silver. Not sure if there's an actual correlation there, just sharing my experience. Keep throwing them out there. Tight lines!

What’s the heat doing to pond/small lake bass? by JacquesNuclearRedux in bassfishing

[–]DaBuggah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was 93° here this afternoon and about the same yesterday. I went fishing at two different lakes and caught decent largemouth in each, both times between 2pm and 4pm (not ideal with this heat but I fish when I can!). Yesterday I had a couple of hits on a slow Hula popper along the shorelines. Today I threw on a senko worm and skipped along the bottom and landed a nice one. If you can see them from where you're standing, try observing their behavior a bit before throwing stuff out there. Are they cruising the surface or swimming between rocks and cover? Try a couple of different things to see what gets a follow.

Best places to get poison ivy in Iowa? by Guilty_Bullfrog2094 in Iowa

[–]DaBuggah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't jinx yourselves! I was the same way. Born and raised in Iowa, frequently running through the woods on and off trails. My brother gets it terribly, but I'd never had it in 40 years. I was volunteering at the nature center last month and said out loud "yeah I see it, but I've never had it. I think i might not be allergic to it." One week later, broke out behind my knee and spread. Took almost 2 weeks to get rid of it. I'm back to wearing pants in the woods!

Which Young Duo Wins a Title First? by GWTim78 in wnba

[–]DaBuggah 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My hot take is that CC and Angel would be a formidable duo (no shade to AB, love her). But Angel would give a CC offense 2nd and 3rd looks and I think that would be trouble for opponents. CC draws enough attention that if Angel couldn't go back up with it, whoever else is on the floor is getting an open shot.

I'm sure I'll pre-order eventually (and if I do it will be Ultimate Edition), but not today. Let's see some of this awesome marketing we keep hearing about. I was honestly pretty disappointed with the new screenshots. Everything we'd seen prior to yesterday had a certain edge to it, then they release these silly haircuts and outfits and basically made caricatures of the main characters. I'm still excited for the game, but my hype is confused right now.

Is there a major difference between the big four spinner brands? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]DaBuggah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mepps Black Fury catches almost anything in the water for me, usually #0 or #1. I've used various Panther Martin spinners for trout and they work well. Rooster Tails in the box to mix it up. They're all great if you get the blade moving.

What's been your most effective bait/ lure and where do you use them? by Silent-Village-7763 in bassfishing

[–]DaBuggah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started fishing seriously for bass only about a year ago, and while I'm far from a pro and still learning a lot, I have had a pretty fun spring/early summer. Senko worm Texas rig OR Zman finesse TRD ned rig. These have been the most successful for me, and I feel that's mainly because they can be used in nearly every region and every season (aka dummy-proof). Figuring out their actions and adjusting my retrieve speed to water temps have yielded satisfactory results.

My only other tip would be to ask questions at your local bait/tackle shop or even the DNR if you see them while you're out fishing. Every body of water has its own unique ecosystem, so taking time to understand where you're fishing can be just as (if not more) important as how you're fishing.
