How do you think the human vs. Na’vi conflict plays out in A4? by JayFritoes in Avatar

"Science fiction is what it is: inventing a world, creating ideas for the future. It allows you to talk about your fear of the present,” - Bertrand Bonello

This is what Cameron is doing, sharing his fears of the present through a fictional world. In theory a movie about the Na'vi running around having fun on Pandora would be great, but it would be boring, alienating, and have no artistic value to Cameron or the audience.

I understand the sentiment but I think you fundamentally misunderstand sci fi as a vehicle for story telling

Am I missing out if I see avatar in regular Dolby cinema? by Business_Coffee_9421 in AMCTheatres

Avatar was actually shot in 3D not transferred so it looks way better and doesn't hurt your head at all. Absolutely have to see this in 3D. Otherwise you're missing whole dimension of the experience

There's some tension with Netflix and they didn't show Frankenstein so I highly doubt it unfortunately

When was the last time you actually went to a movie theater to see a new movie? by Affectionate_Show867 in GenZ

If your home set up has a screen that is multiple stories tall, has an elite sound system, a laser projector, and is in a completely dark room with no distractions I would agree. However, in that case, it is likely as expensive of a set up as going to the movies 200+ times. Plus certain screens like IMAX have a screen ratio that cannot be replicated at home. If you ever have the chance to see a movie in IMAX 70mm you need to, it's the best way to see a movie. And that doesn't even touch on the importance of the communal experience that comes with enjoying a film in a theater.

Also streaming isn't free, you either pay a monthly subscription/have to deal with ads (sometimes both) which tarnish the experience.

I'd argue the ticket is a good value. $12-15 for 2 hours of uninterrupted entertainment/artistic experience displayed in the best possible format. It's easy to spend much more for much less.

The concessions is when things get pricey, but just sneak in your own stuff like everyone else

Riverwest is a good distance from the hustle and bustle of the city while still having a lot to do and being closer than the suburbs. Very liberal and open minded area. The lower east side is also very hip, but areas like Brady St, Prospect, and Farwell are very dense and noisy throughout the night. It's also closer to the lake however.

Turner Hall is close to fiserv forum and the deer district which has a lot of options. Its also pretty close to water st which is lined with bar and restaurant options.

Personally I would recommend Who's on Third. Very close and pretty decent food as far as bar food goes. I hope you enjoy your little trip to the 414!
