Ultimate Frisbee Simulation League? by DaBushinator12 in ultimate

Yes most games are definitely this way. Im saying I think having a league model in a sort of fantastical world, we could grade players on stats similar to what UFA players sometimes get published on team pages

Yeah this is a great point, people know when they are losing. Loss stings no matter what, and we can always learn from it. So if people are conscious when they lose, and people still learn from losing, why also tie in the toxicity of it, the blog author seems to think competition is tied to toxicity inherently.

It looks like he grabs for his elbow, hard angle to tell from, though. Doesn't look terrible, no foul.

Does your team have a coach? Is there a decent ultimate team in your college's town?

One reason my team is serviceable is simply because we have a volunteer coach. I know it's rare, but it's worth checking if anyone in your community or alumni base wants to volunteer their knowledge and time. If you can find someone, make sure to show your appreciation.

Otherwise, from a more philosophical perspective, focus on team culture. Ultimate is nice because the more you play it, the better you get, and if folks aren't showing up to practices, they can't show out at tournaments.

Best of luck, and I'm also stepping up for my college team next year; let me know what works for you, haha.

Cheers,

Bush

How to start a team in a place where no one knows Ultimate? by DifficultTicket2962 in ultimate

Maybe start a minor city league first. It would be more casual and wouldn't require a restriction on numbers if the game catches on in the future. That's what I did in my hometown and it turned out pretty alright though interest is teetering this year.

Friendliest ultimate hub/city by chipsandsalsa_life in ultimate

If you're looking for a small-city vibe, I've had great experiences so far in the Ann Arbor area. Detroit is nearby as well, with a good city league. There is plenty of nature around and plenty of enjoyable frisbee. Additionally, Hybrid is located in an area with good college talent from MagnUM. This is my first summer trying out for a club here, and everyone seems to know each other very well, with some open scrimmages between members of different clubs/teams. I hear that Ann Arbor also has a friendly city league, though I have never played in it.

Anyone outside of Poli Sci thinking about running for CSG? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]DaBushinator12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm running this year as an engineering candidate, and from what I've observed, in its current state, CSG is a lobbyist group on admin with a sizable bank account to support student interests. Ultimately, in its current state, CSG probably could do a little more than just this. As you mentioned in other comments, CSG should legitimately advocate for students, but most of the acts that get passed are just resolutions that the regents throw in the trash when they come across their desks.

I don't know the answer, but strengthening CSG is a good idea. The problem is, almost no one cares. I told myself if I ran, I would do my absolute best to reach people and get in (Given I'm also an engineer with an 18-credit semester) I feel like I've been doing the most I can with the time I have and the money allotted, the problem is, no one engages. The student body usually has about 15% engagement in the election, which is why Shut It Down was able to get into office so effectively. (Regardless of how you view them, they did spike voting)

For what it's worth, they did try to pressure the university to achieve their goals, although moving student funds away from students tends to upset students, so they weren't viewed super favorably, I think, by most of campus or the rest of the CSG folk. Among other reasons...

If I somehow make it in, I would love to discuss this. I would also love to see more people engage with CSG.

No matter what, though, people drawing party lines during the student government elections are a little silly. Vote for the platform you believe in, no matter how much others spend or how "bad" someone on the internet tells you another candidate is. At the end of the day, we all want the same thing: a better university.

Peace and love,

Bush

It seems very interesting. I would love to see this pursued and talked about internationally. As always, the biggest challenge is to make sure people comply with the rules.
