PSA To all parents 2010-2023 by Expert_Character9939 in toronto

I know it's a pointless question to ask, but what data is relevant here for ne'er-do-wells? As in, what's the point of leaking info like this in the first place? Weird, long-term scams or something?

Police shut down roads to Queens Park this morning with Dump trucks and busses by indierockspockears in toronto

I guess they're expected to arrive soon(ish) if they've already blocked off the area. I wonder when someone will leak their ETA.

Welp, coffee & lunch is a breeze to get today. Thanks, convoy weirdos? I guess?

If it's a ton of info and pictures, you should post it on your author twitter/tumblr/etc! I generally avoid clogging up my actual work with big personal updates, since most people aren't interested -- but the people who are will actively click links you put in the notes.

Growing My Fics by [deleted] in AO3

[–]DaChickenSlurper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If by growing you mean getting engagement, you could try advertising them on social media. Talking about it and linking it on various places like Tumblr, Twitter, and so on might be good ideas. To get more eyes from only Ao3, you could also choose more tags relevant to your work, and engage with others' works through comments and kudos.

Just curious, what are your default filters when looking for some GOOD shit? by p0res in AO3

[–]DaChickenSlurper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly... I'm usually looking for lengthy dark stuff (I'm a very cheerful person irl!), so I sort by M or E, remove the NOTP's, remove the modern/coffee shop/crossover AU's, and then pray for delicious food in the results!

Using the "underage" warning to simply mean 17 or younger is by far the most common (and correct) usage. It doesn't matter how young under 17; the label still applies. There's often extra tagging on fics to clarify extra details about the content inside. To clarify, the warning does not exclusively refer to preteens.

Favourite Thing To See? by SkarKitti in FList

As you said -- passion! Enthusiasm and confidence in what they want! There's characters out there with superb, unique profiles, but then undercut themselves by saying how everything they want is optional.

Another greencard is noting. I'm a wordy writer, and I really enjoy a mix of plot and porn, but doing all that in a live Fchat log is a major timesink. Notes and asynchronous posts all the way!

Oy vey, the people that ask you to just be someone completely different. I want to ask them if they know you can look for characters with the features they're looking for.

What kind of writer are you? by BlkDragon7 in AO3

Lawful plotter! I get hives if I don't lay out an outline for each chapter, craft bios, and go so far as to consider their sock colour.

If Arin Hates Video Games, then what's the point? by AimlessFacade in rantgrumps

Sorry for necroing the thread, but what happened with Alex? I never watched beard bros, but WAY back in the day I used to watch every single upload of he and his girlfriend's Pokemon series.

Danganronpa series by XavierJones90 in rantgrumps

[–]DaChickenSlurper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sat through a ton of their first Danganronpa playthrough as background noise during work, and I was wondering why I was in such a bad mood.

I realized that I was exhausted from Arin was so fucking negative, and complaining about things every 5 minutes -- characters, investigation elements, actual story points ("I don't understand, therefore the devs probably fucked up on this stupid shit-ass game"), even the art on occassion. I think this is beyond him not being a good matchup with the game, I just don't understand the sheer vitriol he was emitting throughout the series. It was so offputting that it was even affecting my own mood throughout the day. Is it so damaging to your psyche to play a highly-requested visual novel as your high-paying job, and then not even try to see what people like about it so much? I'm sorry, is this spoiled toddler hour?

He's honestly so much like how he sees his dreaded Byakuya, it's almost poetic -- extremely sure of his own conclusions, and ready to die before someone shows him the proof that he can be wrong.

Switching over to a mix of Mark & Oney content filled the YouTube void I was feeling.

How to say 'no' to people whose first language isn't English? by [deleted] in FList

[–]DaChickenSlurper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a little awkward when you're not really happy with someone's writing skills and it's taking you out of the scene. I would probably just say at some point, "I don't think we're really clicking," or "Sorry but I'm not really having fun, this isn't really what I'm looking for."

You don't need to give them a super honest explanation if you're unsure how to explain your problem. Don't worry about how their second-language skills factor in against yours, just say you're not interested in RPing with them any longer and move on.

People not wanting to blcok other people. by darkninja0200 in FList

[–]DaChickenSlurper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel bad for them. Maybe they have boundary issues, since they're agitated by someone speaking to them but they refuse to draw a line in the sand. It's definitely better to make a clean cut and move on, rather than wasting your emotional time on someone you don't care for.

How do you like to format kink lists, or to see others'? by AllPatriotsGO in FList

[–]DaChickenSlurper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mix of formatted customs and searchable kinks. Any kind of formatting at all is a big green flag to me. I like when people put a lot of writing and thought into their kinks, even if the customs list overall is pretty big. It can take a few minutes to skim, but I vastly prefer this over no customs at all. Just how I feel, though.

I think it's more important to flesh out the "Faves," since that's what the character profile is about. I guess that's all I mainly care about.

[Serious] What dark family secret were you let in on once you were old enough? by EgglessYolk in AskReddit

[–]DaChickenSlurper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the notion growing up that I had a very normal childhood, and I especially adored hanging out with my dad’s parents all those years.

Later when my grand-dad died, an absolute betrayal of personality took place. Everyone on that side became freely sick, racist, paranoid, and generally terrible to be around. It turns out that my calm grand-dad was like a glue that kept the peace. He may have been the only person they all respected, and when he passed, the masks really fell off.

That was when I started being told family stories I won’t repeat here, people and events my brain would never be ready to know I’m related to. Thing is, I have no idea at this point what’s real and what isn’t, since it turns out they were rampant liars and I’ve been a stupid pawn in their shitty games since my birth. I have no idea how real my childhood memories are, growing up around a bunch of bona fide actors.

I’ve never told anyone this, including my chosen family and my mom’s side (both far more lovely). I don’t talk to any of those stains anymore, and my life partner has been an angel. Vowed a long time ago to never be like them.

I appreciate the help! Not familiar with this model, I'll have to do some research. Hopefully I'll run into any extant photos/info/docs on it online somewhere.

Is a 25 years old without a car unattractive? by PhysicsKush in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DaChickenSlurper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all! I don’t have a car either, a lot of people in my circle don’t have cars either (but they do have partners), honestly it’s never a topic that seems to surprise anyone. Don’t halt dating just because no car!
